types of games you love?

Opposite of my other thread. Whether you play it or you just like to watch others play it.

For me I don't play a lot of games, but here are my favourites. I like games that allow you to be creative, so pretty much simulation games. Whether it's building a zoo or a theme park, or even watching my sister play The Sims back in the day lol. There's also a lot of devotion that players can put into these games.

Point and Click games my favourite being Humongous Entertainment. They just get you thinking by using your brain, and they can serve as a gateway to gaming when you're a kid. Also I like in Humongous Entertainment games that the game changes next time you play. Say an item will be in one room then it'll be in another during another play through.

Any game that deconstructs tropes or genres say like, we have a bunch of zombie games out right? So then someone made Plants Vs Zombies where well instead of humans it's zombies eating plants and it's cartoony. I like games like that.

Just games with cartoony graphics. Especially something like Cuphead that's all golden age animation

I like any game as long as it has a compelling story and/or good gameplay, the latter of which is even better if it's challenging as that is what holds my attention all the way through (which is why I hold games like Bloodborne, Dark Souls,  Resident Evil (the classics from the 90s), Splinter Cell and Super Meat Boy in high regard).

I'll sometimes play online multiplayer modes but not often.

Strategy and flashy action (think Devil May Cry and Bayonetta).

I also have a guilty pleasure and that is trashy JRPGs.

Oh, and Final Fantasy in general.

Zelda Breath of the Wild (11/10)
Zelda Skyward Sword (10/10)
Zelda The Wind Waker (9/10)

I've played many other games from Nintendo, Playstation, and Xbox consoles, but these are the ones that I could think of off the top of my head.

This probably isn't what you're looking for, but I figured I'd post it anyway. I also like a bunch of anime licensed games, but idk how many of them are 8/10 or higher material. Maybe Dragon Ball FighterZ would be like a 9/10, who knows. I also really like Star Wars Battlefront (the PS2/Xbox versions, not the shitty remakes). I mostly grew up with Nintendo so that's why there are so many games for that on here.

Nice. We grew up playing Pokemon on the emulator on the computer, mostly.

JRPGs! But there aren't nearly enough english ones around.
Fafnir313's avatar
Pretty much anything Dark Souls, with an emphasis on bloodborne.

Pixel story games. Such as:
To The Moon (Full series and side games. All Freebird games are great.)
Cattails
Graveyard Keeper (Playing at the moment. No spoilers please.)
Harvest Moon (DS version.)
Pokemon (Non 3D)
Stardew Valley

If you have never played To The Moon, I can't recommend it enough. You will be in for an emotional ride with some great art and really beautiful music. By far my favourite game and I really can't wait for the next game in the series to come out.
Slinkgirl95's avatar

Yeah I prefer the 2D graphics over the 3D graphics in Pokemon tbh.

Same. I'm not often a fan of the 3D cutesy cartoon style. 3D realistic or semi-realistic cartoons (for example Zelda, which I haven't played) I think looks okay.

I like RPG games and horror games that have some challenge and some action and great story lines.

I like games that make you think. And i like having options in my games. Wether it be character customization, map, names, abilities, choices etc. As many as possible.

My first game was Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and I've had a fondness for both 2D and 3D platformers since.

I'm also a huge Legend of Zelda fan, enjoying most games in the series.

I still enjoy most Tony Hawk games too - I love starting one up and tricking off everything I can find.

Well, I'm picky and select some specific games. I'm a friend of plattform games but just some I'm familiar with.
And I don't mind what others say, but I love the Final Fantasy series. 'Cause they think they're overrated. Maybe. But they ARE indeed great   There's at least one favourite title you just love to play.

By the way, you like point-and-click adventures? How about some games from Daedalic Entertainment? They have really good adventure titles I can recommend such like the Deponia Trilogy, Edna and Harvey - The Outbreak, The Whispered World and The Night of the Rabbit!
You can just check it out if you want to ;)
Slinkgirl95's avatar
Not familiar with those games.I'm mostly familiar with the Humongous Entertainment point and click games, but I could try those.
Azurelly's avatar
That is okay. But from the Let's Plays I watched and playing the Deponia Trilogy (including Deponia Doomsday) I can say they're pretty good adventure games.
Pretty neat graphics, lovely stories and riddles you need to use your brain a lot.

Although about the graphics can differ e.g. Edna and Harvey - The Outbreak. Might be a weird cartoony style (apart from the fact that it was actually a diploma thesis from an ongoing game developer who drew setting and character on his own) But first, it's a lovely art style for a funny game like Edna & Harvey and second, you can play its anniversary version with improved graphics and interface ;)
Other than that, the Deponia Trilogy is great and humorous, too.
Only racing simulators !!!

The style closest to my heart has to be the side scrolling beat em up. Just something so satisfying about it when it's done correctly. That said, I understand it's weaknesses and get why it sorta fell out of grace.

Turn based wargames (not RPGs) also get a lot of love from me, but again, I get why many people don't like them.

Arcade style twitch games too.

My preferences shifted from "the usual" to Souls-like (screw all of you who use soulsborne) ...about less than 10 years ago. I grew to like games that makes screw ups to be mostly your own fault. The era of handholding was getting out of control around 2011-2014..
I also like builder sims.

I enjoy a good fighting game or two, such as Dead or Alive and The King of Fighters. I am also a really big fan of arcade games from the 1980s and 90s, as well as a big selection of Nintendo games, Japanese role-playing games, retro-inspired games such as UNDERTALE and Cave Story, and a fair deal of PlayStation classics, such as the Spyro series.
i love moba games like league of legend. other than that i usually just play tekken i also like to create real life games out of figurines and play them with my friends. they are really fun to play Clap Clap Clap
