DA Staff Members are SPAMMING users on this site - let's call them out on this!

:iconbentzyca:
bentzyca Featured By Owner Edited May 9, 2020
Recently there's been a spur of spambots on DA randomly liking people's comments which triggers a wave of endless alerts on the messages panel. This can be very annoying, especially to art sellers doing business on this site, who are expected to mass delete all these spam notifications, and might accidentally delete a buyer's comment in the process. The reason I'm calling DA Staff out on this is because this spambot has capabilities that every user on DA should NOT have. I tested something with some 10+ of their accounts. I blocked this user, uploaded a deviation, posted a comment for it, then disabled the comments section. I refreshed the deviation page and it shows the comments section as disabled (good), so not even I am able to access the comments now (good). I then create a secondary account and add my secondary account as a "blocked user" to my blocked users list. I login to my secondary account and try to access this deviation. It's unaccessible (good). I go back to my main account and about 2 hours later, this SAME user I blocked "somehow" manages to like that comment I made despite the comments being disabled. WTH? Not even I can post a comment, even though I am the owner of that deviation. I've blocked 10+ of their accounts. Every last one of them has access to the comments section HOURS AFTER the comments were disabled. How are they able to do this? This is none other than a DA Staff capability because no one, NO ONE should have access to a disabled comment section, however this particular spambot does. They have been reported hundreds of times and DA does NOTHING about it. I am calling them out for this. I've gathered several of their account names. Here are some of them:

jenniferbrooks22
jenniferbrown19
jenniferchambers19
jennifercouts25
jenniferdavis18
jenniferdavis21
jennifergunderson25
katiewatson25
katiewilson26
kaylathompson22
keishagonzalez26
kelligrimmett19

They likely made dozens of other sub-accounts and are spamming this site like crazy, yet DA allows this. I also have a list of all the DA staff members of this site. Here is the link to it:
deviantart.fandom.com/wiki/Lis…

Let's try to bring this up directly to them so they can get off their lazy butts and actually DO something about it rather than ignoring the responsibilities of their own f-ing website. This is unacceptable and the entire staff needs to be called out on their questionable actions here.

Hello bentzyca ,

We greatly appreciate your use of our forums, but I'm afraid that your thread here would be better directed towards the DeviantArt Customer Service Center.

*These are not DeviantArt staff accounts and are only scambot/spambot accounts. If they are noting you, please mark the note as spam. If they are liking your comments and/or favouriting your works, please contact help with the link above to report these accounts. Any accounts such as these that have suspicious links on their profile are spambots. Staff are already aware of these and when reported they get removed.
*DA staff accounts have staff symbol (deviantart logo) beside their accounts rather than in the avatar itself (similar to how other accounts like Core, or Community Volunteer accounts) have other symbols that you can click to see if they are staff or not).
*DA has been actively trying to stop spams, with these ones being going on for some time. With spambots, anytime any preventative measures are taken, they can get around to that with other measures and it's a nonstop exercise in preventing spambots.
*I have taken note of these accounts and they have been reported. Any further accounts you notice, please send them as report through the above link. :)
*If an account is able to "like" your comment after you have blocked them, it's definitely a bug. Please report it as a bug through the link above.

Unlike some communities the DeviantArt forums are not a place to receive official help and information; our forums are more of an informal hang out and place to have conversations so it's unlikely that your thread will be seen by anyone who could help out in any official manner so I'm going to redirect you and close your thread here since the customer service representatives will be helping you out instead.

We hope that you get the assistance you need and we'll see you back in the forums later!

What you say is annoying, and has been happening forever. But your title is incredibly misleading. The staff are not spamming people.

In order to stop this spam, they need to put a few basic security measures. ReCaptchas, and the option for users to use 2FA. This would significantly cut down on the bots that you see posting constantly. The reason this site gets so many is they don't use basic security to prevent it. Then the staff or volunteers end up spending inordinate amounts of removing the posts these bots make.

But yeah, considering they just released eclipse half finished, with even less features then the original site and no upgrades to security at all. I wouldn't hold out hope.

I'm a coder myself it doesn't take any longer than a few minutes to implement a simple security feature as that. DA has that many staff members and spamming is an age old problem which means it should've been resolved ages ago. Not some stupid "redesign" of their website that does little to nothing to fix any bugs. Rather to just make the site "prettier," which is stupid. It's like fanning the fire rather than putting it out with water.

Thanks for calling out phoenixleo btw, noticed they're pretty active on these forums :)
Doesn't make sense how I can't block you from this thread? And calling those 3 particular users for "backup," Are you a DA Staff member? Huh. NO WONDER you're not doing anything to troubleshoot the problem because when did DA Staff EVER do ANYTHING besides LOCK and BLOCK threads that called them out on their laziness? Let's see what next step they'll take. If they decide to "lock" this thread, we all know just how "responsible," careless, and lazy DA Staff truly is. REALLY shows their true colors doesn't it. Yes, we are all looking at you and the next actions you will take, DA Staff. You know who you all are.

That's funny, you can't resolve an issue yourself. So what do you do? "Oh I'm Neiot, I'm gonna call someone else to speak for me because I'm too stupid to speak up for myself." Yeah let's get some "backup" and be pansies like Neiot over here because they're too pathetic and weak to do anything for themselves. What are you, a child?

Thanks for this list! Added to my ever-growing block list.
I'm not exactly sure it's JUST the dA staff, but it might be possible, with all of the Eclipse backlash and whatnot. Or perhaps a hired third party, or a script. I'm not the one for conspiracy theories, but the situation is getting more annoying day by day. They all follow the same pattern, but I'm not sure who exactly they target.
And yet they've taken down the dAHub's harmless bot, as well as a llama trading bot... Hypocrites, all of them.

As I've already said, what baffles me the most is how people are actually ADVERTISING in the comments. This is just beyond me...

DA staff truly are a group of hypocrites. They can make room for these 'bots' but can't even help artists that are generating them web traffic AND making money for them at the same time. Their site is so f-ed up and buggy. They won't even allow artists to edit comments on their own deviations. Like wth. I'm calling out the whole DA Staff because of their refusal to fix the problem, and HOW many people work for their company? Hundreds, and not one of them can do anything, but all choose to ignore? That was a huge list of DA Staff workers that I had a link to. Everything they are doing here is unacceptable. And I kind of feel bad for those people advertising on their pages. I would guess during this Covid crises people are at their most desperate times.

Oh yeah, I'm in agreement the staff need to get off their arses and actually maintain their site like they're meant to. This place has become a festering cesspit of runaway fetishes/porn, trolls, bullies, spam, art theft, a bunch of other violations and general toxicity over the past few years due to the site staff refusal to fairly and consistently enforce their site's official rules and policies. The community is really suffering for it.

True, though I respect people and their spaces/ "fetishes" for whatever kind of art, the last thing I respect is someone who goes against their word and ignores their responsibility. It is NOT my job for one, to do theirs. This is THEIR site. THEY chose to make Deviantart, which means they uphold a lifetime Agreement to be responsible for every activity that occurs on their jobsite. And that involves troubleshooting customer complaints, no questions asked. I have worked in customer service for years, so I know how bad it is, but a job is a job. One can't just up and leave unless they quit and DA staff hasn't yet. I'm just sick and tired of their bs. They're just using an excuse to be lazy..

Same, I'm sick of the poor state they've let their site fall into. Funny how when you report a spammer it gets investigated and the bot account gets banned pretty quickly, but when you report genuine users who constantly violate official etiquette policies by spreading malicious lies, hate, harassing other users etc. you just get told to block and ignore them instead of staff investigating and banning the toxic troublemaker.

So much for DA's zero tolerance policy on hate propaganda, overly aggressive/disrespectful commentary etc.

What's further laughable about DA's so-assumed "orderly" policies is how biased it is. Like just a minute ago I try to block a troll on here, but when I unblock to reply, then go back and try to block again, only ONE time, DA says I need to wait "48 hours to reblock the user." Like seriously? Wtf is that? They're literally just trying to fuck with people right now. DA is so disorganized and disorderly, I can't even count just... how bad and how many issues they have. This site is giving me a huge headache rn

yeah, like a wise Alex Jones once said - "The reason there are so many gay people now is because it's a chemical warfare operation. I have the government documents where they said they're going to encourage homosexuality with chemicals so people don't have children."

fuck the government and fuck population control i'm not gonna be gay

There is SO many things the US gov is involved in, I know much about them. But delving into that is going to transform this into a conspiracy thread and you know how DA staff are - if it's unrelated to the topic, they'll lock the thread. This system biased on so many levels. About homosexuality - I'm not against anyone who is it or for it. But tbh if this happened to my brother, I would be angry beyond words. I know that will anger people, but we all have our own ways of thinking. What's right for -them- is not for everyone else. I know all about population control and the Georgia Guidestones. The Rothschild banking system is evil as hell. They probably run the world too. But delving too much into that is going to get loudmouths like "Neiot" over there to call on "Big Brother" to take care of opponents for her. Typical pansies that can't deal with situations themselves. How pathetic.

they're just a bunch of collaborationists with no ethical direction or common sense

we have a word for such "good boys" here in Italy: "a$$-lickers".
they stay close to the a$$ of the authority so they can have an excuse to exist as a total disaster... in a place that is going toward a disaster thanks to them. the irony... the protected are the culpripts.

well generally any user with a bunny, a cat, or any other cute animal as avatar is usually a big piece of sh*t in real life

So what would you suggest be done if DA chooses to ignore the problem? Let them sit on their lazy butts doing nothing? This IS their website, which means they should handle matters when there is one. One doesn't open up website and LEAVE the problems hanging there. They decided to create this, and they're generating money from it, which means they're held liable for every problem that persists. That's complete irresponsibility on their part.

How did you get that I want them to ignore the problem out of that?

You know you can report spam accounts, right? And dA takes care of them once they, y'know, actually know about them? Help desk is your friend, buddy.

Also lol no, dA isn't actively making money off spam accounts. I also wanna know how that idea even remotely got in your head.
