Two conditions leap to mind when I read threads like this - Detached Identity Disorder and Dissociative Disorder.
Suffers of these conditions often invent many personas. Unfortunately the internet and forums such as these are prime breeding grounds for such mental disorders.
Generally, these disorders are caused by early childhood trauma or poor self esteem and lack of self worth.
