"Recommended for you"

HidesHisFace Featured By Owner Edited Aug 3, 2020
I'm about to get an aneurysm out of sheer stupidity.

The "recommended for you" section of main page is quite garbage... On so many levels.

9 times out of 10 it shows stuff only vaguely related to things that might actually interest me and it updates slowly - so... for a person lurking for long times, it is pretty much useless.

Ok... but there is one more thing that brings my blood to a boil.
It recommends you the things you CAN'T EVEN SEE. And I'm not talking about bloody mature art, no... I'm well over 18 and I don't mind it.

I'm talking about this kind of crap:
A massive, pointless grey box with a shiny text...
"Watchers-Only Deviation
Watch the artist to view this deviation."

Why would it even be on the recommended list? WHY? Obviously I'm not going to fave a picture I can't even see. And even more obviously, I'm not going to watch somebody based on a gallery filled with grey boxes.
Why does this option even exist? Like seriously, what is the point?! Is it a test of blocking crap behind paywall in the future or something? Because it sure looks like it. Or like another botched feature of Eclipse - neither would surprise me.

I mean, really - this option is absolutely stupid unless you are have such an absolutely bloated ego, that you feel the need to force people to watch you based on literally nothing.
For all those years I was under the impression that "watch" was meant to work like this:
"I like the art of this guy, so I wanna see more of this person's stuff in the future, so I'll watch" - kind of like subscribing to a youtube channel or something.
Apparently that made too much sense.

But most of all...
WHY is it picked for recommended?! 'm pretty sure that recommended is supposed to promote artists to me based on my preferences, right? It is supposed to showcase people who want to be seen. Why is it recommending me things I can't see?

"watch to view" deviations are the dumbest shit ever. watch them, view the content, un-watch them. is the idea that you'll like what you see and just decide to remain watching or forget to un-watch? it's essentially just a psychological test at that point, i mean it doesn't require payment like patreon, so what's the point?

Fully agree. Watchers-only galleries are a dumb concept that only the most pretentious of snowflakes would use. If I can't already see it, I'm not interested, and the fact you're so sensitive that you'd have to try to hide it from the public in the first place shows that watching you would be a mistake

Same goes for premium galleries. I'm not paying you to see your art, it should already be fully available to me (and it's really sad that I've previously had to unwatch several people who've started doing this)

I don't bend over for you, YOU bend over for ME, that's how this works

Than again - apparently doing things in the most backwards and illogical ways possible is a trend these days.
And whole world seem to cater to this insane mindset.

Well... so the situation is even more stupid than I imagined.
To think that trying to force people to buy a pig in a poke became a legit marketing strategy instead of... showing quality.

Really hate it. Even if I click "Show Less Like This" it just shows me the same stuff the next day. Or it fills it in with other stuff that have no bearing on anything I search. If it's based on artist tags, then I also blame people who throw a dozen unrelated tags on their work to get more traffic.

Do you know what would help a lot? LET US MANUALLY INPUT TAGS FOR RECOMMENDED, and then you can showcase low-traffic oft-hidden art work that's still related to what we're interested in. No, I don't want to see an "Anal Vore Caption Image," let me input "Star Wars" and "3DCG and whatnot, and then you can recommend stuff based on what I'm clearly interested in.

I feel bad because the recommended has always been fine for me and I don't know how to make it work for others so that they can also enjoy it.

Strongly agree.

Recommend has no meaningful relation to anything as far as can be told.

- It does not accurately reflect viewer history
- It does not respect filters
- It will repeatedly re-introduce topics which the deviant has flagged as "show less of these" (which is just hilariously bad)
- It will recommend items which cannot be seen, which is meaningless and worse, abusive click baiting behavior.

It is mindblowingly broken.

They should learn from instagram which shows me cats and little kittens.
Here it shows me naked women in sick positions. I always click that I don't want to see that, and yet some time later I get the same picture. Like they want to convert me into being straight.

Sometimes I get a picture from someone who blocked me. Probably because I commented "awesome!" on one picture (which got me blocked aparently, weird I know, can't even ask why). So it's like "Hey here's a cool picture but you can't see it hahaha!" Kinda like God to Moses: "Congratulations! You're reached the end of your journey and lead your people to the promised land. Now guess what: You're not getting in!" (weird analogy, I know. But that's what happened)

The fact it's possible for you to see anything from the person who has you blocked shows how competent the admins are

And blocking you for saying "awesome"? Yeah, you have my sympathy there

"Watchers Only" deviations aren't a bad idea in theory, but I hadn't realized they showed up in the Recommended section. That is pretty dumb, and I hope it's something that gets changed soon.

You can suggest it here: www.eclipsefeedback.com/

I'm done with Eclipse Feedback page.

They ignored EVERY piece of feedback posted a year before release, during the testing period - giving it feedback now is redundant.
