A lot of the stuff with eclipse makes sense to me, but the scrolling continuous image format when you click into galleries makes things extremely cumbersome for, for example, browsing an "All gallery" which you had left off browsing earlier and returned to. Like, say I got through twenty of someone's images, and did not want to then repeat going through those images the next time I went into their All gallery, well the eclipse design forces me to go back through those images. Also, as I scroll through those images, loading times slow down because of the sheer amount of images sitting in memory. The format makes sense aesthetically because it mimics other websites' modern look, but practically it is creating some real problems.
I don't know if this was an issue before and still is, or what, but moving images around in galleries is a nightmare. An absolute nightmare. It takes me forever. Being able to select multiple images and move them around in the same gallery would be a good start to rectifying this problem, but really, you guys need to create an interface that is much larger and much more practical for moving images around.
Lastly, sometimes the website just bugs out or gets stalled in loading screens to get images up. I think if your design is so complex that it's forcing your users to deal with bugs or loading screens that just stall routinely, it's worth reevaluating the platform and ask whether it's actually meeting its objectives.
I am having problems linking my work when crediting stock that I have used. Every time I link my work on their page and click submit, the picture disappears altogether. Any suggestions how I can rectify this? Thanks.
I have to apologise and say that I have flipped my shit several times when using the site because of Eclipse recently , the flat GUI is difficult , but what makes it worse, when there are feature changes in the way we respond to messages/deviations , and upload artwork...
It seems the old feature where you can place a group's icon/name is no longer working, along with a member's name too. You could write :iconGROUP'sNAME: and the designed logo or name of the Deviant Art member would appear, but is not working now. How do we post it now? Is there another method?
Compared to pixiv DA serves me completely irrelevant content all the time. Ideally, I want DA to feed me the most recent content of art I like (I am clicking that fav button so you know the tags I like). DA is miles behind pixiv in the relevant search/feed department. And this feature is absolutely crucial for any art site.
I would like to discover and fav more art here but DA does everything it can to make it hard for me. So I usually give up and back to pixiv I go.
As someone who is a long term member of deviantART but had a long break, the new dA is backwards. I thought new updates are supposed to make websites more user friendly not less so.
Where is the "categories" section? I use alot of resources and now all stock, brushes, actions etc are all together without any way to narrow them down. Sorry, but I think I'll be resuming my break. This just isn't intuitive at all.
Please add a sorting option when browsing by topics. I should be able to sort deviations by topic AND by date of upload, like I could back with the old dA. For instance, why can't I look for ONLY the "most recent" deviations under the "Cosplay" topic?
I can do so for "Popular" deviations, so why not with specific topics?
Holy shit yes, I absolutely HATE the infinite scroll...I click on an image in a gallery...and when I go back to the gallery... I've been sent back to the top of the gallery and all the stuff I've loaded has to load again...
I have a few questions but I also want to say that I'm not as down on Eclipse as a lot of people seem to be. I understand wanting to update the site a little bit and I like some of the new features - like being able to have a banner on my profile. I have two simple issues here: I'm glad that I can see recommended deviations, however, I feel that it's very important to also have the option to see deviations that are not recommended. Otherwise, it's very easy to find one's self in an echo-chamber. I want the option to see Deviations in a strict chronological order without any recommendations, and I also want to be able to see a random deviation, random deviant, and random group without any recommendations. The old site had both of these features, so I think that it would be doable to re-implement them. Or, if they are in eclipse, could I be directed to them, or could they be less hidden? I can't find them. I feel that I should make it clear that I'm not simply clinging to these features because they were part of the old site that I was used to, but rather, because I find these features to really be important. While I do like recommendations, I should be able to turn them off and not be forced into an echo chamber where I'm only able to look at what I decide to deliberately look for, and what's recommended to me. One being able to form their own opinions and discover things that may not be in their comfort zone is important, so, please consider. That's all~ thanks for listening. You guys and gals have a great day.
1. Bring back Stash Writer. It is a major help in editing or submitting my work here on DA.
2. Fix your submission system for Literature. It won't allow a Rich Text File without a preview image (which I don't have, since I'm primarily a writer and amateur photographer, NOT A VISUAL ARTIST, like so many of the more-talented-than-me artists here), and it confuses a Text file with an HTML file and won't accept it to be uploaded.
3. Bring back Drag and Drop for Favorites and user Galleries.
I swear, Eclipse is the absolute WORST thing to happen to this website. You Admins couldn't have at the very least POLLED us and allowed us to vote on the transmission (or halting there of) to Eclipse?! Things were WAY better with the version of DeviantArt prior to this abomination!
The very fact that you felt it was necessary to post a how-to for simply navigating the site demonstrates how poorly designed it is. Jesus. The previous site had clearly been innovated on over time to become an intuitive tool that people had no trouble with at all. What a shame to see such good work gone to waste.
Hello. I have a problem with some deviations. If I try to edit them and change either the size of the picture or the description, a red string of text with "Uncaught exception" comes out and the deviation doesn't update, making it impossible to change size or what's in the description. What's causing this issue and how do I fix it?
I need help of one of your own. It seemed like JoyfulBobolink6 send me a message. They say I still have a Amazon card waiting for me. But I'm not sure if they think I'm stupid or not. And they say they are a staff. So I'm not completely sure.
okay I really hope someone can help me out;;;; I've been on DA for 10+ years and I privated a lot of my old work (I don't remember the term but its not Stash, I've looked and nothing is in there) .... I really want to have access to my old work; It was a great way to have a personal archive and now I don't know how to get to it or if I even can;;;
Oh my fucking sides... categories still exist internally for management, but you can't use them anymore for search or adding new stuff. But hey, let's impose Eclipse on people. This is gonna make things so more exciting! Personally, I blame Win10 for this kind of programming culture - the perpetual beta became a norm.
You make a typo - it's a new tag now! Search engine for Eclipse is just a joke.
Categories were a mess, don't get me wrong, but rather than going through them and solve their duplications, which would take about 2-3 hours of half-assed effort, they just cut them outright. Who needs good search engine and good advanced options in the biggest online repository of artwork, right? And this is all to help artist promote their output... ... as long as it's digital painting and came out in last 72 hours, that is.
That feedback form is indeed the best way to give your input and that is checked by staff and some changes have been done thanks to it, I've seen some features that we have now went through the voting too, so I know is real and it works.
Not everything that people want gets done though, and making changes and implementing new features takes time, also staff can't possibly reply to every single comment or complaint they receive either, so I get why people feel unheard and ignored, just know that even if you don't get a response or what you wants doesn't get implemented doesn't mean the feedback you provide isn't checked or is for nothing.
Myrth1 Brings up a great suggestion for users being able to leave feedback. I also 2nd being able to see all the open querry items and having community discussion. Then we could just vote and discuss the issues directly.
If DA staff really wants to be transparent and engage with the community in a productive way this is probably the best way to do it
