What does this Windows patch do?
One of the optional updates currently in my Windows Update list is this one: support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb…
That may be a lot of information, but it doesn't say anything about what all this actually does. What "compatibility" issues? How is it supposed to "ease the upgrade experience to the latest version of Windows"? What else does it do?

Well, a windows patch is something which you stick on the inside of your arm which floods your system with a heady mix of time spent waiting for your computer to update while some itinerant piece of malware empties out your bank account, all of which conspires to get you to quit the OS and give Linux a try.
Something which you know you should do to stay healthy, but like eating a raw kale smoothie no one can seem to stomach.

Looks like it's an update for preparing Windows 7 to upgrade to Windows 10.
Yes, I can see that. But what does it do?
I don't have a straight forward answer for that other than it's preparing the OS for an upgrade.
That, by itself, is a meaningless phrase.
