In need of a new tablet

I'm in need of a new tablet as mine is on the brink of death. It's one of the older Wacom Bamboo Fun Pen and Touch (Medium). It's not as smooth as it used to be, it jumps occasionally, and i've had to turn my laptop off and on or disconnect and reconnect the tablet quite a few times to get it to work properly.

I know the Intuos is supposed to be the ~pro~ tablet, really smooth, and it's handy with all the extra shortcut buttons, wheel, and such... but it's expensive and honestly I think it's above what I need.

Are the new ranges of bamboo good? Which one should I go for? Preferably not with a small working surface.

Get a large Bamboo tablet then

They're better than what you had

I've also seen some cheap intuos 4's out there recently. Might be something to look into.
