"A supported tablet was not found on the system"

My wacom tablet Intuos 4 has been having problems. I've had it for almost two years now, and recently it has not been working properly. A few weeks ago it would occasionally not register; the blue light would not turn on at all and the pen or mouse would not work. Then, two days ago it stopped working completely. The blue light will not come on at all, the mouse/pen will not work, and when I click on preferences I get the message "A supported tablet was not found on the system".

I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the latest driver, plugging in to different USB ports, and restarting my computer. Nothing is working, and I am worried I may have to simply by a new one. It seems like a huge waste of money if this tablet only worked for a little over a year.

Does anyone know a possible solution to the problem I have not thought of? Thanks.

it's almost definitely a problem with the USB cable. I had the same with my CTE-440; i would have to move the cable around to get the connection back, until it finally gave out. Can you replace the cable?

Ok, thank you~

I am going down tomorrow to see if I can borrow a usb cable to plug in and see if that is the problem. My only concern is that I just recently replaced the cable, and thus if the cable /is/ the problem, I need to find a better way to keep it from getting damaged.

That's very strange. I had my tablet for 6 years before I replaced it. But it does sound like a cable problem. You may also want to see if you can get the exact type of cable you had before, to help compatibility.

First, if you have a wired version, check the cable for any damage. Look for cuts, crimps or sharply bent sections, and check the USB connector for any kind of damage.
Second, make sure that you plug in the tablet before starting your computer. Watch it to see if the light comes on or not. It should come on as the computer boots up.
You may have to go through this with each USB port to make sure your port(s) is functioning. If it works on every port but one, then that port is probably dead.

If you have been using your tablet the same as in the past and you noticed a gradual decrease in it working, then it is likely the tablet hardware is dying and possibly already is dead. If you find the problem with the previous steps, then you're good to go with the tablet. If it still doesn't work, then you are looking at having to repair or replace it.
