Hi everyone.
I need a new laptop. I'll be using it for artworks mostly (Sai, Photoshop, Premier etc.) but ocassionaly I'll be using it for gaming as well (The Sims 2, etc.).

My current laptop is a Sony VAIO as well but it's already 7 years old by now. I need some opinion, from other VAIO owners. I want to know if the laptops of this brand are still good or if I should change brand to something else like Asus or Lenovo. I've been getting mixed responses about brands lately so I'm unable to choose.

I don't know about the Sony VAIO itself, but if you want to play games on it, make sure it has a dedicated graphics card, a graphics card that has its own memory and doesn't use the RAM. If you buy a laptop with an integrated graphics card, it won't be that good to play games(my sister has a laptop with an integrated graphics card and the games work very slowly.... Basically, she can't play games..but her laptop is also quite old and has the resource burner, Windows Vista installed on it)

The graphics should have at least 512 MB dedicated memory. My laptop has a 2 GB NVIDIA GeForce graphics card and I can play games with most video settings set to high , which is pretty awesome.(even Sims 3 :> and it doesn't crash) But 2 GB of dedicated graphics might raise the price quite a lot and may be more than enough for what you want to play xD So...512 MB is okay...1 GB is great^^ 2 GB is awesome xD. The 2 big graphics card producers are ATI and NVIDIA, as far as I know.

Besides the graphics, it also depends on the speed and type of the processor and the amount of RAM you have..but the graphics should be dedicated. Most laptops today have at least 4 GB of RAM, so, no problem there. About the processor, I'd suggest it has over 2GHz speed. I can't exactly recommend a type of processor, but it'd be nice to be at least dual core...there are also quad core processors nowadays. The new Intel processors are i3,i5,i7. i7 is expensive..so if you get an Intel proc, go for either i3 or i5, i5 being the medium one in performance, i7 the best and i3...the basic? Of course, that , if you don't get an AMD processor or I don't know what other processors. I'm not saying Intel is necessarily the best.

It depends how much you want to spend on the laptop...just don't forget that it's best the graphics card is integrated...for better performance :D Sorry for the very long post and for repeating myself xD

My dad has one and its good for working with photoshop and stuff. I am sure you can play games on it too. Maybe you can ask in a computer store to find a laptop that suits you, also from other brands.
I would not buy a MacBook though, i prefer windows. :)

Change brand. Change brand. Change brand. I have a vaio that is only a year old and it is the worst computer I have ever had. That's why I saved up a lot of money and bought a MacBook Pro. This thing is amazing!

I've heard Macbooks are pretty epic but I want to stick to windows. I haven't decided yet, I'm still looking through laptops so I'll see.

If you stick to Windows, I don't recommend another Sony. The computers have extremely sensitive track pads. Mine clicks on thing randomly and has caused problems on the internet before by making people angry because of things my computer randomly does and them mistaking that I am doing it.

They're alright, it depends how much money you want to spend and which specific laptop you're looking at

I see. I want to get a vaio again because I'm kinda attached to the brand I suppose. I've had this laptop for so many years that I can't help but get attached to it hahaha.

I got a SONY vaio c-serie laptop, and well, not sure if other people with a vaio laptop has got the same problem, but sometimes it just suddenly freezes and it's kind of frustrating when you're working on something, you didn't save and the laptop just suddenly stop working... Before I had an ASUS laptop, there wasn't any freezing trouble... Dunno, but it's your choice, so yeah...

I haven't tried to play Sims on the vaio laptop yet, but other then the occasional freezing problem, it's good for drawing :)
