Sound drivers for motherboard wont work?

So I've got an Intel core duo e8400 and in the cd with the drivers are the Realtek sound drivers included. When I install them, the destinations folders are completely empty, I get no notification whatsoever and it's like I didn't even install it. I tried downloading a few other but none of them work (same problem) and some even refuse to install. Currently I have some shitty sound card which doesn't even play all the sounds in games, and it's annoying. I'm wondering why is this? Could it be a hardware problem? It never worked, even when I used it the first time after I bought it. I'm running on XP 32bit.. Help would be appreciated.
