Macbook Pro VS Sony VAIO & Tablet Questions

I currently own a Sony VAIO 14" laptop (Specs here; [link]) that I have been using for a couple of months now. I think it is a great piece of machine; however, I noticed that many other students in my major (which is Game Design & Simulation) have Macbook Pros. I haven't really dove into the specs of each as of yet, but I am just wanting some opinion. Should I invest in one? Would it benefit me in the long run, job wise and school wise?

Also, I am considering getting my first tablet. I've had knock offs in the past, cheap ones that work for a month or so, and I have an iPad 2. The iPad is a wonderful quick sketch, but I would like to be able to plug in to my laptop and use it in Photoshop. So, what's the best type of tablet for a digital artist?

Thanks for the feedback! :]

Put simply, a Mac offers very little benefits whatsoever. Yes many design schools and professional establishments swear by Macs for creative usage but if you know your way around whatever program you use you'll be just fine with ANY capable machine.

On the hardware side there's ZERO benefit.

You could get a high end Windows laptop that would be of the same quality or (preferably) a mobile workstation which would be far better than any Macbook.
Mac Pro would be overkill for anything short of 3d graphics, video editing, iMac would be the better choice for PS, programing, webdesign type of stuff over a Macbook.
But you could build or buy a desktop which would be far better than an iMac, and if you needed a workstation you could build something far better than a Mac Pro.

On the software side, there undoubtedly will be that slight advantage considering many if not most design studios prefer the Mac platform and OSx, and many require you to work on OSx or at least have knowledge of it beforehand. But as said above, if you know your way around the programs you use, you'll be just fine.

And of course, if you want a Mac, go ahead and get one.
The Mac Mini is a good choice for getting a Mac just for the sake of getting a Mac and messing with OSx.

There are pretty much no actual difference between a mac and a pc, except the price.

If you need a new one, get one.

Get something like:

CPU: i7 3820
GPU:nvidia 570/560ti
Case: fractal design r3
RAM: 8 Gb 1600mhz (2*4gb, easy to upgrade)
and a SSD

about $1300 and as good as a mac pro for $3900!!!! Diffirence: the pc got a faster but smaller SSD, it got faster RAM and a better looking case.

* I currently am running an intel core i5 on my Sony and may be interested in getting a Mac desktop instead. Any suggestions over Macbooks vs desktop Macs as well?
