Autodesk Maya is by far the best in my opinion! It's for "3d artists" while autodesk 3dsmax is for engineers! if you're an student you can get it for free.

Maya. Learn it if you want to do 3d animation.
If you want a free one try blender, are you a student?

Blender. Be warned, it does have a steep learning curve but once you get used to it, it's actually a very powerful free solution.

If you're a student then 3dsmax is free.
Cinema 4D is mostly free as well and it's good for some types of animation.
Blender is really good and totally free.
