Designwise, what do think of this design? Is a design I made for my church and basically is mostly concept, but this is the look I am going for. The grey square after the navigation bar is where an image slider will go. I would like to hear some opinions.
I think it's too busy. Too many effects/layer styles, inconsistent patterns and generally simplistic font choices. For example, the blue headers in the "body content" (what I'm calling it anyways) area and the blue header in the sidebar are not consistent in either the gradient pattern or the shape. Likewise, the use of all serif fonts for every page element is distracting and somewhat confusing. You do keep a visual hierarchy with general layout elements and fonts so it is readable, which is important, but it could be much better with just a few tweaks. Sans serif fonts for body copy, toning down the use of layer styles and keeping design elements consistent throughout the page would be easy changes that would go a long way.
And personally I'm not a fan of the big footer style that is (unfortunately) quite popular, but you've kept it simple and I like that.
Love the layout, but I have some issues with the gradients you used with your ribbons. They make your website go from professional to something that a 10 year old can make. But again, I find it appealing
Pretty nice. The only "negative" feedback I can think of is that is fell that there is too much contrast between your black footer and the rest of your light-based design. A light-medium grey may be better. That said, I never had any kind of design/art classes so I may be wrong.
Cheers and thank in advance =]
