Am I Forgetting Anything?

So I'm planning on building a new tower for myself. I've got a case picked out: [link]

I've picked out extra fans, a graphics card, hard drive, RAM, motherboard, sound card, heat sink, CD drive, monitor, wireless card, power supply, and processor.

It would suck quite badly to get a bunch of parts, and putting it all together, only to find I forgot some small thing that people take for granted that means the entire system will sit lifelessly taunting me until I order it. Is there anything I'm missing?

Also, what do you guys think of this drive? [link] Could it work for both a boot and storage drive, or should I get two separate, dedicated drives?

With your budget constraints it would do, but separate drives would be better, preferably an ssd for the boot drive.

I'll have to see how my more realistic budget looks. I want this thing to work as well as it possibly can.

Having an SSD boot drive will give you substantial performance increases especially in load and boot times but the price on them barely went under $1 per gig so it's still expensive.

if you you're just using something for a boot drive I'd go for a solid state drive. You shouldn't need more than 1TB for general storage.

So do you think the build that I posted up with the 990FX board and monitor you posted would be a great option for him? Solid base with a solid upgrade path for the future? I'm not sure where that falls within the budget :P

We still need to know if he has an OS already or if he needs to purchase one. That can be a $100 out of the budget if he doesn't have one.

If he can push the budget to about $750/800 it would be a great buy.

Well the sound card definitely isn't needed.
So the X6, 990FX, a 550Ti(better performance for about the same price), swap the memory for 1600Mhz ones [link] , add in that XFX ProSeries psu [link] , and a monitor.

Total $730.
And then the OS if needed.

I'm planning on ghosting my drive, if that won't screw up the OS, so I kind of have one. If not, I can put off buying until I can get everything, which would increase my budget by a bit. My plan is to have it built by the beginning of next year, when I'll be going into the more advanced graphic design courses, so I've got time to save up and add to the budget if need be. My cap right now is $600, but even with that cap, it's going to be a while before I reach the funds for it. Between the two of you, I'm going to be building one hell of a system for my budget, it would seem. :D

For the most bang for the buck I would say go straight for the i5 because it's still a beast on stock speeds and if he needs more processing power overclocking is a breeze. The i7 is roughly a hundred bucks more and the added price of the previous i3, to me it seems like pissing money away. Spend the dough now to save dough in the long run.

What's the computer going to be used for? It seems like you're building an unbalanced system cause the motherboard doesn't bring much to the table. To save some money I would recommend the HAF 912. You're spending good money on a case but skimping out on the rest of the build. I can get a rough build going for you once I find out what you want out of the rig.
