Hey...

I'm thinking of buying a Bamboo Fun Small tablet, but I have a couple of questions. First off, the Bamboo Fun Small tablet is only sized A6... would that be big enough? I'm a beginner, so I don't really want to stretch very far, but is A6 big enough for me to carry out some art creations?

Next, do I need anything on my computer beforehand? Like photoshop or something? I've heard a lot of talk about it, and I'm a little confused. Can I have absolutely nothing digital-graphics-related on my computer, buy the Bamboo Fun and start? Or do I need Photoshop or something like that on my computer first?

Thanks!!!

Well, the tablet usually comes with some basic graphics software. To utilize it fully, though, it wouldn't hurt to get some decent graphics software (ie; GIMP, photoshop, corel, or similar).

Thanks :) I downloaded Gimp earlier.

Most tablets are sold with beginner software like Photoshop Elements and/or Corel Painter Essentials, but yes, there's no point in getting a tablet if you have no software to use it on.
As for size, that's completely up to your preferences. Some people can't work on small tablets, while others need a small one. If you don't make big, long strokes usually, then stick to a small tablet size.

I have a Bamboo Fun, and quite frankly it's the best hundred bucks I ever spent. I had never used a tablet before and I do my digital artwork on a laptop so I didn't really need a huge one. It's really easy to use, and the textured surface is perfect for a beginner who needs to ease into it; the texture will inevitably wear off, but by the time it does, you won't feel like you need it anymore. I highly recommend it, but you WILL need something like Photoshop if you're going to get the full use out of it.

Thank you for the reply. =)

I think A6 should be big enough for me right now, especially as I'm a beginner...

I have one. It works for me. And it's the small size. It also comes with some form of photoshop or painter - I think it's different depending on where you buy the tablet, because I've heard people got photoshop elements, whereas I got corell painter essentials, but maybe I'm getting confused there... Either way, you'll get some kind of art program with it.

go for the small bamboo fun, but remember that getting a tablet doesn't instantly make art easier, or you a better artist - in fact, it doesn't make you a better artist at all. If you can't draw on paper, you certainly won't be able to draw on a tablet. It takes quite a long time to get used to using the tablet too - even the bamboo fun. So once you get it, don't be disheartened if it's practically impossible to draw anything the way you want to for the first month or so of using it.

Thanks for the great advice!! I'm fairly confident on paper... sketching is what I do most. The main reason I want to try Bamboo as well is for the colouring - I can't seem to get the hang of painting.

Anyways, thanks a bunch. =)
