So recently i've downloaded some free brushes online and while i wasnt really paying attention to the format of the brushes i was just more concerned with the brush itself. As im going to install the new brushes i see they are in a gbr format instead of the normal abr format that im used to seeing. My question is how do i convert from gbr to abr? I've googled to no end my problem and the only results i get are for converting abr to gbr.
never heard of gbr, with the CS series it's been abr all the way! Unless what you got isnt really a brush, i.e. styles, patterns, shapes, actions etc etc all have different file extensions.. explore your PS folder, see if you can match it up.
nah its a brush....apparently there's this program called gimp basically a lot of people use it to make brushes for other photo editing programs. I've downloaded the gimp program and a lot of people swear by it but its just a pain because i just want to convert to abr.
I've been trying also trying to convert abr to gbr as i'm too lazy to make my gimp brushes i've made, into photoshop brushes using image packs (now it's kinda of pointless as i switched computers and can't seem to find my original photoshop copy >.< ). While looking i've also found no possibility, unless you use image packs and convert them in photoshop. Hope something easier comes soon.....
You'll probably have to convert them, but on a side note, have you tried simply changing the file extension? I used to do that to Paint Shop Pro brushes to get them to work in Photoshop. It may not work but wouldn't hurt to try.
It seems like Panda 5 wrote here that he and me are the only two guys on the internet who want to convert gbr in abr format !!?? ( or maybe stainlessstars too, who looses his photoshop copy) So then the question is what is it about all those brushes I downloaded here out of this site DEVIANTART they are all in gbr format... And if DarkOrder's right that would mean that those brushes are only worse shit, so this really doesen't make any sense to me anymore. The comment of stainlessstars maybe ment nice but can't understand shit out of it neather. Sorry for the language but I'm really going crazy right now. And like Panda already wrote there're tonnes of people who want to convert abr to gbr so what is it about this format what is it for... and with which software could I use it .... or what are those pretty brushes on this site here for which I found under the name of PHOTOSHOP BRUSHES but can't use them or am I just stupit. Please would be very pleased if anyone could give better explications about this whole confusing gbr brushes format thing then the guys who already wrote their comments above !?
As I already stated, GBR files are brushes made in GIMP. There currently isn't a way to convert them to ABR files. The reason there's a lot of people wanting to convert ABR to GBR is because Photoshop is more commonly used and there are more resources for Photoshop than GIMP, so naturally they want to convert the great stuff they see for Photoshop to GIMP.
You're simply going to have to pay more attention to what you're downloading (specifically which category of deviantART) and will only be able to use .abr brushes. I'm sure you can find the same or similar brushes to what you downloaded as .abr brushes.
Wow ...ok... thank you very much Nokari, your explanation was very usefull, an your answer came so fast ! I've just downloaded gimp nice interface for freeware! Never heart of it before, will have a closer look at it these days ! And now I also figured out how easy it is to get abr brushes on deviantart if you only precise it in your research ! Yep, you've really teached me someting there, for nothing in return big bravo to people like you ! Thank you very much Nokari !!
