NC's actions are unprecedented though, even for them - they're known for shutting down their titles, but this time it was a healthy game that brought in a steady profit - the shutdown announcement came just a few days after they started selling a new power set, and while they were still advertizing upcoming content that will now never go live, even though it was in the final debugging stage, and it was just completely out of the blue, the development team had no reason to believe they were going to be cut anytime soon until executives came in one morning and told them all to pack their things. Everyone knew it was going to go away someday, but it's like the difference between your grandmother making peace and eventually losing the battle to cancer and your brother being shot to death in front of you.
The reason they cited for their actions is "realignment of company focus," which basically means "this game didn't do well in Korea so we're getting rid of it, now you take your yet another fanservicey grindfest and like it." They refuse to even sell the intellectual property to another studio out of some asinine concept that they'd be shamed if someone else did better with it than they did. Don't ever buy an NCSoft product.
