Due to the incredible amount of user submissions which do not follow our copyright policy in the Fan Art category for prints, deviantART is removing this category from the list of printable categories. The name of the category alone suggests a group of artwork which is 90% unprintable due to copyright restrictions.
We have had people going so far as to remove the original description for the print version in an attempt to fool the quality control team into thinking that the deviation does not contain copyrighted imagery.
If your artwork is currently submitted under this category and does not contain copyrighted images, characters, places, or things, you will need to move it to either the Digital Art or Traditional Art categories for it to remain available as a print. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, but this is a necessary step in assuring that all of our print account holders are able to continue posting their work and making it available for sale.
Please note: Moving copyrighted images to another category on deviantART will not increase your chances for having it available for sale. If your artwork does not meet the policies outlined in the FAQ, it will not be approved for sale.
Excellent! I've been very irritated with the number of fanarts in Prints. Having sent a help ticket asking about this and not recieving an answer, this clears everything up. Thank you so much.

heh, I sent a help ticket asking them to block print submission from fan art catagories. I don't know if they saw my ticket or someone else's ticket. ^^ i'm just glad they did soemthing about it.
They've always been really good about answering help tickets so the only explaination that I could come up with for them not answering my note is that this issue is brought to their attention a LOT. Which is fine. I can certainly understand them not answering every single one, y'know?

it'd be nice if they post that into their FAQ forum. Apparently a lot of people just have the thought "if others did it, i can do it too". then again, a lot of people don't really read the FAQ before asking questions. >.<
So... I have a quick question about this. How can fan art NOT use copyrighten characters? How would it be fan art? ...well, maybe unless you do an image based of a certain artist, character or something... maybe?
if you receive permission to sell that copyrighted character.
for example you did a fan art of a character from a friend, and that friend let you to sell it, then it's fine.
Have a great time everyone and please fav this article so as many people can see the featured works. I would recommend seeing each one and faving them too.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
