Background: The Festival

Organised by the Hither Green Community Association (HGCA) and its partners The Hither Green Festival started in 2009 as a relatively low key local event celebrating the variety of interests and talents to be found in the area. From baking competitions and local history through to racy comedy nights there was something for everyone and it was all local.

The festival has grown from year to year and has retained its unique local flavour, the HGCA feel that it is now time for the Festival to become its own entity with a unique and distinct brand and identity both online and in other media.

Hither Green

Hither Green is a quirky family-oriented suburban area in south east London. It is known for being on the Greenwich Meridian, for having excellent railway access to central London, and for its numerous parks and green spaces.

The Brief

We are looking for an artist to design and create the following three things, a logo, a letterhead, and a poster background.

Logo
The logo should be simple, should contain the words Hither Green Festival and should reflect some or all of the concepts set out in the theme list below. If it won’t work in black and white we will require a b/w version.

Letterhead
The letterhead will consist of the logo and a page topper or page border to be used in official correspondence.

Poster Background
The poster background should include the logo and should be bright and festive. The central area of the background should either be a whiteout box for text or the transparency of the images should be such that text will not be obscured. The poster should also draw from the theme list given below.

This will be a two stage process. The first stage is for concept sketches and the second is the full commission to produce the high quality art we are looking for.

If you are interested in this commission please post in this thread and/or drop me a note with examples of your work. Notes will be sent to the artists selected to completed Stage 1 sketches, we will also post the details of stage one choices in this thread.

Stage One

We will pay £20 for a set of four sketches. Each of the four sketches should represent a different concept for the logo and scheme. One concept sketch must be railway sign oriented. Please see reference image 1.

We will commission three artists at stage one.

Stage Two

We have a committee meeting on February 6 2013. Ideally we will present the concept sketches of the three stage one artists to the committee at that meeting. A winner will be chosen and will be paid £100 GBP ($160 USD) to produce a logo, letterhead and poster background.

This commission is a minimum and the winner may to be asked to produce additional images.

FAQ:

Media
The logo will be used online and in print. Any media which can be successfully reproduced in these ways is acceptable.

Payment:
Stage one will be paid in advance once artists are selected from the expressions of interest.

Please don’t produce sketches until we ask you to. If you do, we can’t guarantee that you will be chosen at stage one.

Stage two will be paid in advance when the details of the concept are agreed by ourselves and the winning artist.

Flexibility:
We are willing to pay more for the right artist. We also reserve the right to commission more stage one artists if the quality of those expressing interest is high.

Quality:
The concept sketches do not need to be of high quality.
We suggest you provide examples of the quality of work you are capable of producing alongside your four simple sketches which will be evaluated purely on concept, not quality. Stage one is all about your creative ideas and ability to interpret the themes we feel capture Hither Green.
