Which tablet LAPTOP (not slate)?

hey guys, how's it going?

i'm in the process of looking for a tablet laptop to buy. What i'm looking for is a tablet that i can use for some digital artwork (look at my gallery, nothing advanced yet, so i won't be doing heavy work with the tablet, mostly line art, basic coloring, and hopefully i'll start shading) and for my everyday pc usage.

my little research led me to the HP TX2000, which i really like, but i would like to get some word from someone more experienced than me in this sort of thing, would you please tell me if i would be making the right choice or not if i decide to buy the tx2000. what other model would you otherwise recommend?

please don't recommend a tablet slate such as wacoms because i need a laptop, and i really don't have the budget to buy both, so a tablet laptop is my only choice.
thanks

People I know who have bought one say that they're only really any good for handwriting recognition - the sensitivity and accuracy just aren't good enough for many artistic uses :(

 Of course I could be wrong, not having used one myself...

It's probably too expensive, and I've never tried one, but I've been thinking the Axiotron Modbook looks pretty cool...

never thought of the sensitivity, i guess i do have to try it out myself to see...
and regarding the modbook, it's too expensive for me, and i don't think they ship to the middle east where i am, and finally, not a big mac fan.. i love looking at them and at what they can do, but i can't work on them lol
thanks tho
anybody else?

I'm planning on getting the HP tx2120 soon (as soon as we get settled into our new house payment!). I'm looking for something similar to you. I want something mostly to use for school and general PC uses, I deal mostly with photography, so photo manipulation ability is something I'm looking for, but I'd also like to do some digital art on it too. A lady in another forum I'm a member of has one and she likes it, but she says she doesn't really use it for the tablet features. ??? Why the heck she chose it is beyond me. *shrug* Anyway...I expect to get mine within the next month or two...if you can wait that long to find out how I like it add me to your friends and I'll let you know as soon as get it and have a little time to play with it.

For the price and the tech that your getting (sort of outdated compared to what apple is offering) you will probably be better off just getting a regular mac and the 12 inch cintiq from wacom. Tablet PCs aren't really for us art folk. They are really only designed for taking casual notes and handwriting recognition, and ultimately won't provide the sensitivity required for us, at least without going into unnecessary expense.

Great for an office worker, not so great for an artist.

the hp tablets are touch-screen and not even that great for writing on. if your hand brushes the screen, your pointer will move.

if you want a tablet pc that uses wacom technology, check out the fujitsu or newer gateway models. they are more expensive, but you are paying for the premium technology.

I got a tablet a few months ago (an IBM ThinkPad), and it really isn't appropriate for doing art. The pen has no pressure sensitivity, and the whole idea of drawing on the tablet is kind of awkward. Folding the computer into a tablet and using the tablet attracts a lot of attention from others, which can be both a good and bad thing. Overall, I've found that I just use the computer in its normal laptop position more often than not. I think you'd get better and cheaper results from just using an ordinary Wacom tablet.

thanks for your thoughts guys... looks like i'll be getting both a laptop and a wacom tablet... or just get a really good laptop and no wacom... a wacom tablet might be a bit too much for me at the moment because my skills really aren't advanced enough for one... thanks again you guys :D
