Alright so I'm going into university next year and a laptop would be best.
I'm planning to go to an art school so I would like to purchase one that would be able to withstand my large photoshop and illustrator files without freezing or slowing down.

I also want one that can run many things at one time..so like itunes, msn, PS, Illus, Firefox and stuff (since my desktop can't do that =__=)

I have my eyes on either a Macbook pro or an Acer 5920 ([link])
I don't really want to get a macbook since it costs so much but I NEED ADVICE/OPINIONS!! please =)

You could get whatever laptop.
I reccomend having lots of memory and ignoring alot of programs at once.
Safari is a better browser for connection and speed and msn isnt nessecary.

The Macbook Pro is probably your best bet, unless you want a Windows comp or your school requires Windows, as long as you max out the RAM. I think it comes with 2GB anyways, but it never hurts to have too much RAM. ;) Anything with a lot of RAM will run those programs at once, so it doesn't really matter what model you're using.

If cost is an issue, then any ordinary Windows laptop will do, but (as an Apple fan), I could never recommend one.

Despite the cost, Mac's and Macbooks are pretty tough. You can do a lot of things to a Mac that would freeze your Windows machine up solid, and have it run perfectly. Though in the end, it comes down to which platform and which company you decide to go for; it's a personal choice. For me the choice was easy, Apple all the way, but you've got to do some research into what you think you'll need and what you know you want. Then make your decision based on what will best suit you.

I would vote for the Acer/Windows machine, its more than likely a lot cheaper, and if you use legit software then much easier and cheaper to buy software for a Windows machine that it is for a Mac. So really depends on your budget, also a Mac is much harder to upgrade in the future compared to a Windows based laptop.

I know I will get flammed by all the Mac fanboys out there, so let it begin, yawn!!

Please remember Deviant Art is for Art and not for poorly composed and badly focused snapshots of you and your friends, you will find sites like MySpace catering for that!

I got a MacBook (not Pro) - and I decided to since I found that what I was looking for would actually require a PC laptop of similar or higher price - and I was looking for basically what you're looking for.

I just got it with base RAM and upgraded to 4Gb on my own for the price up upgrading to 2 from Apple.

It's the first Mac I've used since elementary school. I have Creative Suite CS3 on it, legitimate, and the exact same price as for Windows.

Another thing, I have Windows XP installed on it via Boot Camp so that I can play video games and use MSPaint.

Also, I don't know about Vista, since I never used it, but Mac Leopard has a feature "spaces" that makes it like you have multiple desktops that are easy to switch between, so you can easily do many things at once - I will regularly have iTunes, Safari, PhotoShop, Dreamweaver, and other odds and ends open on four "spaces" (you can have more ot less) and hit "ctrl + arrow" to switch between them.

I'm not really trying to "sell" Apple, but I guess I am since although I was reluctant to make such a switch, I am really impressed with what I got.

Please do insinuate anything sexual from that.
