I am new to the site and I am trying to find out what the definition of "open" means under the literature>;poetry> category. I am sorry to ask again if this has already been asked, but I have been looking for an hour... someone please put me out of my misery! I appreciate it.

Open poetry is for free and blank verse. The latter doesn't rhyme, but uses iambic pentametre. Free verse doesn't have a form.

This might be helpful in understanding dA categories (unless they've made recent changes): [link]

Thank you for helping me out! I think I'd better try to remember my english classes and figure out what each poem falls under... I never think about what form it is when I write it!

Thank you again!

If you're not thinking about the form, you're probably writing free verse, but yes, it's a good idea to study different kinds of poetry.

No worries. :)

So free poetry is like goo? Explains why it's so fun.
