Hi, I was just wondering, who out their listens to music to inspire them to write? If so, What kind of music do you listen to and what is your favorite genre to write?
I find it too distracting to write with music playing, unless it's to actually write about the music, which I do occasionally as a sort of automatic writing exercise, where I try and turn the music into words and images. Not much usually comes out of this other than it gets my pen moving, but occasionally I'll use a line or two out of these exercises in a poem. I've done this with anything from the jazz of Ornette Coleman and Eric Dolphy, to classical stuff like Mussorgsky, newer stuff like Nine Inch Nails, Mogwai and Devendra Banhart.
haha i do the same sort of thing with painting. i turn on music and just let the music paint. i like nine inch nails and jazz and although i can play classical (cello), i cant ever write or paint or draw with it
I find indie rock to be a rather vague genre. Quite frankly, what doesn't fall under indie rock?

hahaha, that describes my taste though. i dont have just one specific, as long as its good, its rock, and it can make me feel and with those feelings, paint or write, i'll listen to it. i love punk, alternative, techno, pop, crunk, acid, emo, powerpop, dance alt, industrial, metal, gothic, grunge, etc etc.
I find that if im listenting to something then what i write seems to mirror what i was listening to. but some songs put me in a certain mood and i channel what im feeling into my writing. i ususally listen to rock (i love all kinds of rock) as well as alot of rap, techno , r&b. thats about it

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.

We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on.
