Do you believe in it? Does it haunt your every waking moment? Have you never had it a day in your life? What do you do about it? Or, what advice can you give to people who want to avoid it?

It exists.

However, I do have a chronic disorder that flares up every so often. It leaves me unable to think clearly, thus unable to write.

I should add the qualifier, "It does for me, anyway.":|

I can't give advice and whatnot; all I do is wait to get better. When I'm not sick, I'm rather prolific, actually. I try to makeup for the lost time.

Sometimes the words just don't flow and the ideas just don't come, and it all feels like it sucks. That's pretty much were I've been for the past few months.

Well, when I get its symptoms, which are usually really only an unwillingness to write or a stall with not knowing where to go next, I back off until I feel inspired again. I personally believe we get tired of things so we can stretch out and occupy other interests.

Or it's like eating too many apples all day, every day, for 10 months. You're going to get sick of them.

At the same time, when that one idea hits you out of nowhere, just go with it. Don't even fight it. Chances are you'll come back with fresher ideas.

Fear Armageddon and Jesus' return! Fear 2012! Prepare to die by alien invasion! But don't you dare believe a scientist saying we'll cause our own extinction. After all, it's easier to blindly believe and listen to politics than to look at evidence.

Whenever I get it I tend to spend a lot of time jotting down things I hear or any thoughts or observation that I have, I have a book full of overheard phrases and parts of conversations that I found interesting. Every now and then I glance through it to see if there's anything that inspires me.

When in doubt, fart about.
:iconlpowell:
I'm lazy and I listen to too much music. Does that count?
:iconbekkia:
I've been thinking about doing that lately. I always here something interesting, but I never have anything to write on. Plus, it give me an excuse to be a creeper.
:iconlpowell:
No, then.

I think I understand the feeling, but I also know that one has to be actively involved in writing to feel a "block" from it. I haven't tried to write anything in several weeks. There's a line between atrophy and writer's block and I know it well enough to tell on which side I stand.
:iconbekkia:
I agree. So many people think that just because they're not writing means they have writer's block. That's like a man who gets sick in the morning thinking he's pregnant.
:iconechelon-maniac:
Personally, I'd have to disagree with that. Any form of not writing, anything at all, I think is some type or form of Writer's Block.
