Here's thought. Why do so many people do anime? Everyone seems to do it. To all you people who don't, THANK YOU!!!! Personally, I like GOOD, well drawn and detailed anime, but why does everyone just copy and rip off and never try to come up with there OWN style? I mean, ok, China has anime, manga whatever you want to call it (to save all you nitpicky people, I don't really care about the specific and intrinsic differences so please, save your breath, don't go on a rant about it), but Japan is a pretty small country to base all of your drawings on. I have nothing against anime or the people who draw it as I said before. What I am saying here is BRANCH OUT!!! Create something uniquely yours. To be (in my option) a truly great artist, while you can be influenced, heavily or otherwise, by established styles of art, your work should be totally yours, good enough to be the style that beginning artists rip off instead. To me it just seems like the whole anime scene is way to over done right now, like those "Warp speed Scotty" wall papers. Diversity people, variety. That's what I ask for.

Yeah i know the feeling, i guess its the tredy art for the young artists out there, i like some of them but they all look the same after a while. But what u gona do
i wanna know who draws the line of what is anime and what isn't. and, i am talking about characters that are original. there are so many comics out there that have characters that LOOK anime, but aren't classified as such. where exactly is the line drawn?

"I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it for I shall not pass this way again."
How would you rather they drew? So what if they want to draw in a foreign style. All the power to them. Manga illustration is one of the most technically difficult forms of comic drawing out there. It depends on very exact and delicate line work, an exact and difficult to master balance of black and white, I could go on for ages. And considering that "manga style" is just the japanese's take on Walt Disney's style of drawing I don't see whats the problem. Who cares if theres a billion people out there giving that style a try. You have to start somewhere. I think its pretty ignorant to expect people to come up with work like Hiroaki Samuras' or Masamune Shirow's. Hell even though they both do manga illustrations their work is nowhere near similar. Just compare a page of Samuras' Blade of the Immortal to any of Shirow's Ghost in the Shell mangas. The stylistic differences are huge. But you know what, I bet you 50 bucks that Shirow and Samuras started off drawing characters that they had affinity for and tried to duplicate other manga artists' styles. If they hadn't they wouldn't have the few thematic similarities they share not only with one another, but with every manga illustrator for the past three decades. If you want to be constructive why not give some decent criticism to those artists whose work irks you? At least that would be better off than sounding off and annoying this particular artist who knows what its like to take on the difficulties of drawing such a foreign not to mention secular art style.
Just try and tell me that these guys all draw the same. These guys are seasoned pros who have had nearly two decades to hone their styles and talents. So try being a little more forgiving eh?
aight im pretty new to the deviant scene....in fact i just made this account
i gotta agree with AIRE...
alot of people use the tradiational LARGE EYE style anime as a starting point...it is relatively simple to draw....its a great starting point....growing up with american comics and trying to learn..i found it was very difficult to try what those guys were doing..but anime and manga has simpler lines and i feel an over cleaner look....
the only problem i have is when people dont seem to progress PAST that stage...they get so comfortable with the style that they dont branch out and incorporate new ideas into their art...im an illustrator by profession so i know..and my boss always says...you draw what you know first..but you have to try and push yourself beyond what you know and really experiment...
to all yall out there stuck in a rut...just give it a shot..
Hey, stupid, read my original post again, I never said I didn't like it. I'm guessing you probably saw the title of the post and didn't bother to read my actual thought. If you want to put in your two cents, make sure they apply idiot.
Seriously are you people all dumb as posts? I never said anything about manga, anime, japanese art being bad, dumb or not difficult. But just for kicks a word on your "Manga illustrations is one of the most technically difficult forms of comic drawing out there." claim. Most difficult according to who? Just you? All comic book art, and most other art for that matter, demands exact, and delicate line work and no duh a mastery of black and white balancing. Really, doy, that's what comic book art is. Even the rougher line work has to be just right to look good, that's why not everyone does the rough stuff and not everyone does the smooth stuff. And about the two artists you mentioned, again, missed the point of what I was saying completely. Like by a lot. Great, they do anime(or whatever retarded politically correct term you want to use for their style), but as you said it's outstanding anime, not this garbage that everyone and their mother's cat is posting on this and other websites. That's why their famous.
