I'm a few years on DA and still can't understand it. I recon if Picasso, Van Gogh, Rothko, Kandinsky and Munch were alive and on DA they'd only get a few views while someone doing a cartoon of fairies or something was getting 9,000 views and loads of fame. Anyone agree???
well ... picasso had lots of LUCK to become famous, they all had luck ... ant thats what you need ... its just LUCK... of course you have to be good too... but it's not enough ...
(but maybe they just klick 9000times at their own pic without be logged in? xD)
Really, a lot of the time, it's all about promotion. While some people hits boggle my mind, a lot of it has to deal with where you're published, if you got something people keep tuning into (like a comic), and how well you keep your public aware of where you are and what you do.
Not everyone will be hitting 3000 hits, mind you... but how many of those kinds of people do you want to be? I'd much rather have 20 people that really liked what I did, then 3000 people who like what I think they should like.
... but that's starting to wander onto a different topic, though.
I dont think Picasso, Van Gogh, Rothko, Kandinsky and Munch would use DA. God i dont think even Wannalee would show her work here, and shes an elephant!!!!
Problem is DA is aimed at photography, graphic and digital art. The true potential of traditional art cant be accessed here. Scanners and photos of art work dont have the same quality as illustrations and cartoons as most of them ARE done on the computer. Then this has attracted loads of teens who want anime, cartoons, fanart etc which has in turn bred more art of this type and more new users, in the end completely wiping out other forms of art.
You have to be thankful though. I would much rather have a few educated and well informed comments on my page then page after page of 'thats so good' or 'wow'.
