music is a huge part of my existence and when im working on a piece i usually just hit shuffle on my ipod...but i think that music helps me develop my work and helps me to think straight but sometimes i dont even pay attention to the music...so do you listen to music when your painting or drawing or whatever...if so what genre/artist...or do you prefer the still silence...?
I'm always listening to music when I draw or paint. Music lets me get into my own little "world" and shut out all other distractions that might be present. I find I spend a lot more time working on something when I've got music going than when I don't.
I listen to a whole bunch of things, but mostly metal (mostly the music I associate with high school and college - so that'd be 80's through very early 90's). Moonspell is one of my favorite bands to listen to while working. I'll also listen to Classic Rock, Classical, or Native American music. It really depends what sort of mood I'm in.

I tend to listen to music only when I'm alone. But if I'm in a class or a studio at school, or even if my husband's in the same room doing something random, I'll kill the music in favor of talking.
But when I am listening to music while I'm working, I find what I want to work on dictates what I put on. I think music can totally influence an artist's work, so I have different playlists for different moods.
All I can say is Whenever is listen to Jimmy Buffett, I end up with a girl in a skimpy outfit at a beach bar at sunset. (Though the parrots are suspiciously missing)
Looking at my gallery, I just realized how much Jimmy Buffett I listen to.
If I'm listen to whatever is coming over the speaker at a restaurant or coffeehouse , it ends up whimisical.
I only get serious when listening to classical or jazz.
I usually listen to music when I'm painting. When I had a much bigger room to paint in and I could throw the paint around and make a mess I would listen to fast, aggressive music, Prodigy was good for that. Now my work space is much smaller and I paint smaller, more considered pieces and I listen to slightly calmer, more melodic music like Queens Of The Stone Age, although at the moment my favourite band to listen to when I'm painting are Crippled Black Phoenix. I've found that generally music which doesn't make such a big deal out of lyrics is better as it still has an influence but on a different level, like a subconscious understanding.
Disturbed, Skid Row, Meat Loaf, Marilyin Manson, Van Halen, Anthrax, Megadeth, Def Leppard, Nirvana, Scorpions, Dio, Poison. Fast, hard music helps when I'm working on a piece.

Apparently I was banned because my douchebaggery means I'm a troll. Fuck you, whoever the fuck banned me, and fuck you too, dA.
for sure...its sounds crazy but i cant concentrate with silence...its just not in me...yeah and for some reason i always listen to music that i dont listen to on a regular basis like The Wallflowers or some random classical stuff that i have on my ipod...and sometimes i dont hear anything at all...
yeah its weird how when you hit that stride when your painting how a certain song or a certain melody can carry you through...sometimes the music helps me go into an almost medatative state and when i come to i look at what i did and im like...where did that come from..?
cool cool...see i cant really work with hard music...but i could put Nirvana's "Something in the way" on repeat and listen to it for an hour while im painting...but i still listen to disturbed, slipknot, NIN on a daily basis...
...yep, makes a big difference for me. I just hit random or shuffle and soak it up. Sometimes I need to steer it a bit if I get into a particular mood, but the right music can really turn all the lights on.
