subject pretty much says it all. the fixative doesnt work very well to stop the pencil from smearing. i spend way too much time cleaning up the smearing and almost paint completely over it so it doesnt make the paint look dirty. ready to give up and not draw on the canvas first - just start painting
help - anything work. fixatives work well on paper, but so far the ones ive tried dont work very well on pencil on canvas.
Hm...thats strange because Ive never had that problem before. I always try and draw as light as I can so maybe that's why. What kinda paint are you using?
When I draw a pencil outline on a canvas I try to do it as lightly as possible, that way any smudging that occures is hardly noticable and is easily covered by the paint. Also you could try using a very thin brush to paint the outline, if you dilute some black acrylic paint so it's a very light grey water colour I imagine it won't smudge like graphite will and should be easily covered by your painting. I've never tried that though so I can't say for certain that it'll work.
acrylics - i think i just need to skip the drawing part on the canvas. i can probaby do without the drawing for what i am working on now, but was still wondering in general.
thanks for the reply - probably need to sketch much lighter as you suggested, or skip the drawing step entirely (which for what i am doing now is fine)
