I need to find some kind of colouring thing, a pen I guess.

I've been using acrylics for years and recently I've started trying new ideas and techniques and trying to do more intricate work, unfortunately this has coincided with a change in my living situation and now I'm pretty much restricted to working on A4/A3 paper, which is fine but I have trouble working so small as my hands aren't all that steady. All this means I need a medium which'll allow tiny details I can't achieve with acrylics on a brush but offers the freedom that working with paint does.

I suspect what I want is a kind of felt-tip pen but I need something a little more fluid. Does anyone have any ideas of what it is I'm looking for?

Some markers come with a brush like tip that would allow you to retain the style of a paint brush and also have the fine tip for detailing work.
Letraset makes something like this. [link] or this [link]
also markers a great for getting really bright colours and fluid lines
Hope that helps in your search for the right medium!

Oooh, they're nice, I think that's what I'm looking for, I'll have to see if I can find a local stockist. Thank you very much :)

There are copic and pigment markers out there, as well as water color pencils (which is my personal favorite) which are easy to use, as long as you have a dampened Q-tip to blend colors.
Pastels are kinda messy, but they also work, to get the job done. ;~)

I've been giving water colour pencils a try recently, I think I need more practice with them though and I can't really get the kind of vibrance I'm looking for. Pastels are too messy really and don't give the kind of finish I'm after. Copic and pigment markers are something I should look in to though, thank you :)

I love details. If you don't mind the lack of color, use mechanical pencil (not fancy at all, i know).

I'd forgotten about them, I may start using them to sketch outlines but I really want something that'll give me bright colours for the finished piece. Thank you :)
