:iconsketchneko:
I'm in need of a new camera. my old DSC-M1 just doesn't meet my needs any more.

I absolutely need one that shoot RAW digital image files.
It must have a manual focus option.
Needs to take noise free images in low lighting
also good macro shots.

trying to keep it under $400 so no DSLR for me : (

I hope you guys can help me wade through this sea of digital cams, thanks

You may occasionally see Nikon D40s pop up from $350-450. Especially on the used market. I'd suggest you save up some more so you can buy a camera body and a decent lens. A 50mm lens is a killer at low light photography and its cheap too. Compared to some other lenses.

Well if you aren't in the market for a D-SLR, I would look at a Canon G10. They are top-notch cameras for around $300-400. I don't know much more about point-and-shoots because they are relatively all the same, however from people I know, I've heard nothing but excellent things from the Canon "G" series.

Like ~dongor94, I wouldn't rule out a DSLR, even more so because they (as a generalization), are going to meet your requirements much better then a compact camera. Case in point - I just picked up a Pentax K100D Super + DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II, for about US$400. . .

Further to that - I'd take a good look through KEH. They are probably the major used camera dealer in N. America. The prices are generally a bit higher then eekbay, but it's worth it for the quality of service and support. They also have a well earned reputation for being conservative with their quality ratings. "Like New" really does mean "packaging has been opened, but even if you look, you'd never know it wasn't new"
