Hi all, Hope you have some answers as I have no idea what's going on here. When shooting RAW on the 400D every now and then (between 2 in a 100, to 8 in a 100) the RAW files seem to be corrupted. Have a look here at the actual image.
These are obviously JPEGs but the problem only occurs with the RAW files. I have tried 3 different cards, cables and different software for d'load and opening the RAWs. The funny thing is that on the camera the files show OK. While dowloading they look OK, and the problem pops up upon opening of the actual RAW file. I assume that the camera and small previews of the image are a JPEG preview, and the RAW is only shown in its full glory upon "full screen" for editing.
Any ideas please?

I've seen this problem happen with different software packages (never PS) and it very well could be the RAW reading plugin for the software being poorly coded for the new RAW version.

Thanks all. The problems occurs on 3 different cards. The files are d'loaded by: iPhoto, Image Capture, Lightroom, Digital Photo Professional; both from the camera and through a card reader - same issue, both on a mac and a pc.
where do i post the raw? DA submit seems to change it to all-black tiff.... OK, I zipped it, it's uploading... here it is:
I would recommend to bring the camera to Canon directly and get them to have a look at it. It doesn't seem to be a software issue as I tried to open the file you provided in Photoshop CS3 and still had the same problem... also if you tried 3 separate memory cards that seems to rule out everything but the camera itself. Canon should fix it for free or replace it so long as the camera is still under warranty
Thanks guys. I feel that a visit to canon is my only option. I've been delaying and testing so I can go and give them as much info a possible. And yes, I did try to copy the files using a card reader - same. The error is obviously encoded into the file itself while writing to the card.
Won't be able to go to canon until next week, but will keep you posted (don't want to go back to the shop and have them courier the camera, will drive to canon walk in centre).
cheers iq0
