Have you seen a certain shot and wondered how they did it? Do you know how to use a Steadi-Cam. Do you know how to create 3 point lighting setups or other little tricks? Ever wonder what the proper process is for setting dolly track?

If you have questions related to production, post them here! Our Film team will help you.

Good idea!

I'm gonna wrack my brains to come up with something I'd love to know...

Actually, I do! It's more a post-production related question though.
How does one back up something like a 13GB movie file (uncompressed quicktime master) to something safe other than a portable hard drive when you don't have BluRay or HD dvd technology? Do you have to split it up on to three DVD's or what?

Aside from backing up onto an external hard drive there are only a few options.

:bulletblue: Record back to the original media. (MiniDV - Use a fresh tape, burning tape heads.. even rewinding and playing back the tape will degrade the quality of the footage.)

:bulletblue: Split your file into segments and burn onto multiple file DVDs. This way you can easily just cut the three pieces together later.

:bulletblue: Have a crapload of web hosting space and upload it. :work:

Just get a portable hard drive. It's the absolute best option if you really want to have decent backups.

Or, a not portable hard drive. Just as good. Maybe start using a raid array if you can, so all of your data is automatically backed up.
