I've been having a crap load of difficulty finding a single tutorial online to suit my needs. I want to touch up this piece, but I have no clue of how to do it:

[link] (Note, its a fairly large picture)

(I know its cut off a bit, its meant to be so no one tries to copy it :P)

Anyways, what I want to do is color the darn thing, but I dont know how. When ever I use a brush, it never does what I wnt, and the paint gets darker until black, or lighter until white. Random and annoying.

Any tips and I would be eternally grateful :)

What do you colour it with? Photoshop?

In Photoshop, settings of the opacity and flow of a brush can have the effects you mention...

There are multiple ways to handle the task your having a hard time with. One, would be to put the car layer on the top drops its opacity down a bit so you can see the layer underneath, and then paint on it. But my suggestion, would be to clean it up to line art, and then put its layer on the top. Create a new layer under it, and paint on that. Or another method that works well too is Adjustment layers which doesn't harm any work, and you can change your settings later if you decide your not happy. Then mask the area off that you don't want to have the color change.

Whether you think you can, or think you can't, you are right.
