From Wikipedia:
Costume design is the design of the appearance of the characters in a theater or cinema performance. This usually involves designing or choosing clothing for the actors to wear, but it may also include designing masks, makeup or other unusual forms, such as the full body animal suits worn in the musical Cats (designed by John Napier, winner of the 1983 Tony Award for Best Costume Design).
The Costume designer is the person whose responsibility is to design costumes for a film or stage production. He or she is considered part of the "production team," alongside the director, scenic and lighting designers. The costume designer might also collaborate with a hair/wig master or a makeup designer, with the latter two operating on a subordinate level. In European theatre the role is somewhat different as the theatre designer will design both costume and scenic elements.
Costume designers will typically seek to enhance a character's persona through the way that character is dressed, while at the same time allowing the actor to move freely and perform actions as required by the script. The designer needs to possess strong artistic capabilities as well as a thorough knowledge of fashion history.

I am a costume designer. I look at a script and convey a character; their personality, their style, their role, through their clothes. I also have to consider the ideas of the director and the actor playing the role. I have to consider the shape and comfort of that actor as well.
There is a different process for costume design than there is for fashion design. This is why I think we need a costume design category within the Design & Interfaces gallery. At the very least there should be a Theatre category that can include set design, prop design and costume design. Perhaps even lighting and make-up design.
I think there can be room for character and cosplay design in this section as well.
I have asked the new Gallery Director :devdepthskin: about this issue. He can see the reasons behind the idea, but wants to see that the section would be used if it were created.
So, if you are a costume designer, set designer, prop designer, character developer or any sort of theatre/ film arts person, please go here: and sign the petition by adding the deviation to your favourites.
Also, please could you answer the following questions below to let us know your views on the subject!

Thats for 3d costumes. Youre not supposed to put flat artwork in artisan crafts, it says so at the beginning. Thats why there should be a section for costume design drawings/paintings etc in design, just like there is for fashion.

I do believe there should be sub-categories in Theater Design for Costume, Makeup, Set and Publicity. And that someone should actually watch the gallery, numerous times I have come across unsavory, and otherwise unsuitable deviations in there.

Even though I'm more of a fashion designer than a costume designer, I do think that there should be a difference via sub-categories. As it is, one can't tell what is meant for clothing and what is meant as a costume, so the costumes look kitschy and the regular clothes look boring, which does none of us any favors.
Have a great time everyone and please fav this article so as many people can see the featured works. I would recommend seeing each one and faving them too.
