Your favorite part of the process?

When you have to make your comic from scratch to finish, you are bound to have parts of the process you like much more or much less than others. What is/are your favorite part(s)? How do you deal with the others?

Myself, I am very partial to the writing and penciling, where all the actual creative energy is contained. Writing is euphoric for me, and penciling is exciting because I have to really live the story to capture it well. After that, I do enjoy inking for a different reason - it's tedious and slow and meditative. But coloring, shading and special effects are pure torture! I get through them by playing good movies in the background to keep my mind entertained (or thinking up forum threads like this one... yeah I'm in the midst of shading right now!)

You?

I think I like looking at the finished product best. After that I like working out the story details, because that's the creative part for me. I don't really like thumbnailing or pencilling, but I like colouring. I even enjoy the brainless bits like inking and shading, although I eventually get bored or distracted and start wanting to work on something else.

Also the creative process from collecting ideas up to the scribbling. ^^
Inking is pure hell for me cause I'm so bad with it that it always ruins the result. ;_; Still have to learn a lot about making comics...

personally, i find the writing and pencilling one of the less exciting parts.
my style doesn't have any outlines, so i just dive straight into the colouring, shading and special effects.
I just find it the most rewarding part, plus it gives extra dimensions to a previously flat image ;P

My favorite part is the inking. My writting is quick, i just make a few dooodles to get the idea and that's it (although, some times it's what takes the most of the whole process). My pencilling is very loose, for the exception of the characters, that still, i don't detail too much, y barely put any effort in the backgrounds in this part. That leaves my inking an enormous place for improvisation, and i don't use white out, so if i screw up, i have to figure out a way to put something there to not make it noticeble. And i enjoy the hell out of that, it's when the drawings really pop out of the page, plus, many things i end up adding until the inking, directly in ink, that i never planned during the pencilling. If my computer worked properly, i might as well would enjoy to do the coloring.

I love writing. Creating worlds and lives is a bit of a power trip. =P Really though, the process I go through for writing is a lot of fun. When it comes to the art side, I'm on the opposite end as you. Pencilling is my least favorite part. I can already see it perfectly in my head, so I get bored with it fast. (This is why my husband and I are a great team. He knows what I'm looking for and loves pencilling.)

I don't mind inking. It's not my favorite part, but I don't hate it. I do love coloring though. Laying my flats gets a little repetitive (especially if I do it right after inking) but I still dig it. Adding dimension is a lot of fun. Seeing what I saw in my head on paper and bringing it fully to live is awesome. Plus, working digitally gives me a lot of room for experimentation.

Page layout is most exciting for me. I think this is the area where you have the biggest opportunity to make your work stand out explicitly as a comic. What I mean is, there are a lot of mainstream comics out there that are nothing more than glorified storyboards. Shot after beautifully rendered shot of things that can be duplicated with ease on the big screen. Page layout is one of the areas where you can use comics unique medium to create a COMIC. Where you can create something a movie or novel can't.

Page layouts and scripting is definitely my favorite.

That's very true. Paneling is the main characteristic of this medium and something no other has, so you're not really exploring that form of art unless you focus on those

mine has to be page layouts then penciling, looking at it as if im directing a film, page layouts are like setting up the shots and angles then penciling is were you bring out the best in your 'actors' what could be more fun!!!
