Recently I've been training for boxing, martial arts, etc... I'm fairly quick but I want to be quicker ( I know everyone has their limits, but I still want to test mine ). The only things I know quicken reflexes are throwing punches repeatedly and ducking ( set up a rope or string and duck from one side to the other under it )... Anyone know any other exercises?

plyometics are supposed to be good...for speeding up punches and kicks, i've done some resistance training such as holding small dumbbells, like 3lb or so, while you practice your punches or leg weights while you practice kicks...you have to be careful of your joints if you do this though and i wouldnt recommend a long workout...a few minutes a day even...i have noticably sped up my kicks and punches doing this...

yeah swimming too, forgot that :]

and yeah as well as ducking under a rope also tie a rope between two things so it is between 10 to 15 cm off the floor, and jump over it backwards nd forwards, with your feet together. Once you jump over it don't turn around to jump over again, just jump backwards

fly catching is the way to go!
seriously, sticky hands does a lot of good for close range reaction,
all the 'real' fights ive been in have involved the aggressor
lunging straight into you and going for a putdown...
so ba gua sidestepping is useful too...
oh, except for the kickboxer guy... he KO'd me long range clean :)

Did you know on a subconscious level your mind and body is about ten times faster (reflexivly) than your conscious self? Ok, I might be exaggerating a little, but basically that's true, and it makes sense when you think about it. Let's say you're in a boxing match, and the other guy throws a punch at you. You see it, you consider it, and you decide that you should get out of the way. What happens? You get hit. Why? Because you thought about it. Now, same situation, the guy throws a punch at you, what does your body naturally do? It avoids it. Thought isn't always necessary to complete an action. Especially if you already know very well how to perform the action, you're body just does it.

So, that said, on to exercises for training yourself: Get used to the motions you need to do. Do them repeatedly, time after time after time. Then start to imagine an opponent, and the moves he would make. Visualize over and over that you are fighting him, and the motions you need to do to win. If you do that enough, it will become instinct, and you can more or less let go of your conscious thought in a competition and know that your body will know how to react.

In a nutshell: Practice makes perfect, and too much thinking will slow you down. Don't think about what you need to do, know what you need to do, and do it.

This has to do with swimming sort of... When you are in the water, have somebody throw a tennis ball at a decent speed and simply knock it down into the water. This sort of thing works best while eggbeatering (keeping yourself up by making little circles with your feeet). It will give you leg strength, and fource you to try to keep your balance. Since you are training for boxing, the tennis ball would take the place of a persons punch.

This isn't ment for boxing(i dont think) but it should help you the same way.

Also if you dont know what i mean by eggbeatering, please send me a note and i will explain.

it is a proven fact that playing videogames actually increases your hand/eye coordination and reflexes.

but other than that, i would reccomend plyometrics.
