Man, you guys missed out on the combined works of 'sell it before they can buy it' "Romeo' Lanny Kravitz.  Every freakin' Toyota commercial ever.

Bad covers of Beatles songs in general.  Seriously, either use the original, or don't use it.

Moves Like Jagger (and anything else by Maroon 5).  NO.

Hey, Soul Sister - Train  Seriously I want to punch someone every time I hear this song.  It's so freaking annoying.

"Y.M.C.A." By The Village People
"Ace Of Spades" by Motorhead
"Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zeppelin
"For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield
"Let's Dance" by David Bowie

Born To Be Wild should be at the top of the list. I cringe whenever I hear it in a movie. It makes me think "not again!".

I actually agree with the majority of the list.

"Happy" - Pharrel Williams

"Misirlou" by Dick Dale. The original Greek version is not very common.

Iris_Goo Goo Dolls. But hey, it's a great song.
Back in Black by AC/DC, hands down. Honestly? I could give a damn how much their lead "performer" makes, there could be more money contractually *BANNING* that song from paid commercials.

Took some thinking and guessing and looking online even xD..and I think these are used a lot:

:bulletblue: Jackson 5--ABC (I'm sure I've heard it in more than one movie.)
:bulletblue: Natasha Beddingfield--Unwritten
:bulletblue: Sarah McLachlan--Angel (Those ASPCA aka sad dog commercials)
:bulletblue: Madonna--Vogue

Well those don't count, because you hear those everywhere during the Xmas season.

More used on trailers than films themselves or commercials, but Clint Mansell's "Lux Aeterna".  It is very good and powerful track, but you'd imagine that in 20 years they'd discover some other catchy tune over use in film trailers? lately have started to notice raising use of Two Steps from Hell's "Freedom Fighter" on local TV and cinematic trailers in theaters.   Both are fabulous tracks and I love them, but ... still.  TV stations love Two steps music a lot (  here across the board and regardless of being local or international ownership.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbS-Zh…;

and

www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtlLyL…

www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASj81d…  is one that  is likely most used in TV station made trailers in my country.

Most commonly in theaters bits are used not full tracks.

Cannot comment actual commercials since I haven't seen any for  ages as I tend to change channels or use the service from my ISP to skip adds on TV.

How about "I Feel Good" by James Brown?
Scorching-Whirlwind's avatar
Yeah, that's a good one. I highly agree with that choice.

And its always in the endings of movies like Garfield, Look Who's Talking 1-6(?) and other films of that genre!

Papa's Got A Brand New Bag isn't too far behind either, but I wouldn't say it's overused just yet.

I totally hate that song, because of overuse in commercials(usually ones with babies, fast food, or pets) too! James Brown was a brilliant artist who influenced many, many other bands/ singers for decades, but everybody has at least ONE crappy song in their career!

I havnt heard Bodie-Drowing Pool in movies or Tv shows.
