Classic J-pop, Japanese Soul, etc.?

There are a lot of threads about current J-pop artists on here, but does anybody else listen to Japanese pop, swing, jazz, soul or R&B from the 50's, 60's and 70's? I've noticed Japan had a brilliant soul scene similar to that of the Northern Soul and Carolina Beach Music scenes. Quite fashionable too, much like their English 'mod' counterparts.

"Black Room" by Jun Mayuzumi and "Sunny" by Mieko Hirota would be my favorite songs from this era. Other notable artists include Eiko Shuri, Reiko Ohara, the J Girls, Linda Yamamoto and Mie Nakao.

I'm interested in similar scenes from other parts of the world as well, so feel free to make suggestions.

I'm not familiar with Japanese soul, but Happy End were a pretty decent band from the 70s, and Apryl Fool were a 60s psychedelic band that were't too shabby at all.

Could you link me to some of Happy End's stuff? I can't seem to find them.

I've heard of Apryl Fool before, they're an excellent band.

Hosono, the bassist from Apryl Fool also played in Happy End, which is how I found out about the former.
