I've never been a big fan of the Human League and Jesus and Mary Chain, but I did like the Skids. You should come hang out at the altwave turntable.fm channel sometime mang.
Killing Joke started out as a post-punk band in the very late 70s, making some odd yet wonderfully badass songs such as: [link] , [link] , [link] , and [link] (this one's a grower, by the way). Then, they moved on to the more goth-rock schtick in their "Nightime" LP by the mid-80s, though some of the tracks are still pretty impressive [link] .
Then, they moved on to make Metal in Pandemonium but that's a 90s. They're pretty much making Metal/Post-punk now
Ministry is best known for idustrial metal, but started out as a synth pop band: [link] The faux english accent is hilarious, as is Al Jourgenson's look. Bad Religion is a well know hardcore (early)/punk rock (later) band, but in between released a strange and wonderful synthy prog rock album: [link] Later disowned by the band, and I can't understand why. A golden oldy from the band which kickstarted the EBM scene: Front 242 [link] More early Belgian EBM: Absolute Body Control [link] Canadesian (heh) EBM: Skinny Puppy [link] Criminally underrated: Fad Gadget [link] Also found this discotheque classic while browsing: Liaisons Dangereuses [link] The KLF used to be really funny in the 80s: [link] This is how Underworld (famous for 'Born Slippy' off the 'Trainspotting' soundtrack) started: [link] It sounds dated, even for 1988. I'll stop for now.
