Isn't it really annoying that bad pop we hear in the supermarket ALL THE TIME like rihanna, katy perry, and those crappy rappers, is so popular these days? And then you like good rock bands and all your friends think that's so old and "not popular" (yeah right). I don't know if people think that but it bothers me. Anyway, tell me what you think.
I think that pop has always been low quality music written by producers that's catchy, easy to remember, and easy to dance to. I don't think it's ever masqueraded as 'good music'. I personally hate all of it but I can't deny that the point of the genre is just to sell records to a conforming demographic.
Sometimes I feel exactly the same way. There's nothing you can really do about it except try to find better music... And I don't think it's just pop music though, lots of other genres like hip hop/rap and rock aren't doing that great either.
I do get annoyed when I'm talking about stuff from, like, 2005-2010 and someone replies, "But that's so old!"
Pop in general as a whole is bland and unoriginal. It all pretty much sounds exactly the same. Fairly certain rock is coming back, because even pop artists are noticing that pop is getting louder and blander. They're even becoming bored with it. Soon enough, that stuff will begin to dwindle.
LOL. If only I was talking about any of them...all of those bands are terrible, they're just in rock for the cash. Saliva and Hinder aren't relevant anymore, not that they were anyway, they've been off the mainstream since probably '07. The reason I say rock is looking better is because older rock acts are coming back and having hits. Aerosmith, The Offspring, Soundgarden, Green Day, Everclear, KISS, Mötley Crüe, Godsmack, etc. I also say that because even indie & alternative are becoming more rock & roll oriented, with bands like Rival Sons, Everest, The Killers, Last To Know, Etc.
I don't even listen to the radio anymore the last pop song that i've heard was call me maybe (and it's stuck in my head 'cause everyone's like singing it and i hate myself for saying the chorus is really catchy)
