What TV Shows Were Not Not Allowed To Watch?

So, what tv shows were you not allowed to watch as kids? It can be either live action shows or cartoon/animated shows and anime. And why were you not allowed to watch them?

For me:

:bulletblack: SVU. My mum didn't let us watch this whenever she was in bed watching it. I guess because it deals with rape that my mum didn't want us to see. Pretty much so since I saw an episode a while ago where it dealt with incest. Ew.

So, what about you then?

Courage the Cowardly Dog. My mom never knew about any of the scary content of the show, but was offended by how Eustace treated Muriel.
I still watched it when I could, though, normally at my friends' house. There was also a small tv in the basement that I would use specifically for that, since no one else went down there half the time.

I remember when I was a kid, my dad and I would watch The Simpsons whenever it came on.  But now for some reason, whenever I visit my dad, my stepma would get pissed off at us for watching Hawaii Five-O, or anything that wasn't Little House on the Prairie, Fox News or some religious channels.  They'd watch Shrek and The Incredibles with my nephews and nieces, but that's about it for decent entertainment.

Spongebob, of all things.  Laughing

No particular reason why other than the hatred she had felt for it. But, once my sibling was born, that's all he would ever want to watch and it was, for some reason, perfectly okay. Facepalm

I couldn't watch... Johnny Bravo, Cow & Chicken, Rocko's Modern Life, ANY program involving superheroes, ANY anime with fighting, and definitely not anything rated anything above TV-PG. Was pretty lame. :<

This always blows my friends' minds. But I wasn't allowed to watch The Simpsons or South Park, so TO THIS DAY (I'm 22) I have never seen a single episode of either NOR episodes from similar shows like Futurama, Family Guy, Beevus Butthead, etc. My circumstance is a little different because I grew up in a military base overseas that had its own TV network with only (I kid you not) 8 channels. It's called AFN (Armed Forces Network), and the shows I mentioned only played late at night, so it was easy for my parents to restrict me from watching these shows on the one channel, on the one time slot, on the only TV in our house haha.

My mom let me watch whatever I wanted, but once I have kids I know I wouldn't let them watch Family Guy, mostly because it's fucking terrible.

I was never not allowed to watch anything. I'd watch things that would make my parents cringe, but for the most part, what was on TV was okay as long as it wasn't a porn channel (which we didn't have when I was growing up). My parents would attempt to convince me to watch things other than horror or shows with monsters. They said it would warp my brain, but they never actively said I was not allowed to watch anything. I think they trusted my decisions for the most part.

My mother hated The Simpsons, but she kind of flipped back and forth on whether I was allowed to watch it or not growing up. My dad didn't care though. I didn't even attempt to watch South Park or Family Guy until I was in my late tweens, because I knew my mother would flip. She was mildly displeased when I referenced an episode of South Park after watching it at my uncle's place when I was 12, but by then, it wasn't a huge deal. I also remember when anime was becoming a big craze around 2003-2004, my parents didn't seem too crazy about it, even though I watched Pokemon and Dragonball Z religiously when I was 6. I think it had more to do with the fact that my dad hosted a weekly Magic: The Gathering group that attracted lots of nerdy, anime-watching teenagers, and that kind of influenced their opinions on it. I even specifically remember one time I was watching Megaman: NT Warrior, and out of the blue my mother started criticizing it for no apparent reason. I don't remember there being any sort of questionable content on that show, she just didn't like it because it was anime. :P

Strangely enough, I remember watching shows about murder investigations on A&E when I was only 8 or 9 years old, and my parents didn't have any problems with it. I was a huge bookworm at the time, specifically when it came to nonfiction, and I guess they figured that I would read about worse things.

My parents were rather strict when it came to TV (and they never watched it themselves), and three that come to mind were The Simpsons, Seinfeld, and Friends   And that was on over the air TV (I never had cable as a kid, and still don't).

Well, pretty much all Adult cartoons. Especially The Simpsons.

South Park. I'd pretend to be napping while my dad had it on in the living room. Worked like a charm.

My mom asked my sister and I not to watch Rocket Power or Ed, Edd and Eddy. She didn't really enforce it but we weren't into it anyway. She really banned Barney because it's annoying but that was fine because my sister and I agreed xP

I think I got kicked out of the room once when my older sisters were watching an Austin Powers movie. But other than that, I had unofficial free reign. It was kind of like a "don't ask, don't tell" situation.

My Mom was overbearing, OCD, and strict. So. There were a lot of things I couldn't do and watch.
Here's the ones I wish I could have watched back in the day, because I ended up loving them so much:
-F.R.I.E.N.D.S. (I was allowed to watch the finale, 'cuz it was like a big deal, but otherwise I was always ushered out of the room when it was on)
-X-Files (My mom thought it would be too scary for me. It's now one of my favorite shows, and the least scary thing I have ever seen lol)
-Dead Like Me (I watched the two hour pilot with my mom, loved the show, and instantly was banned from watching it. :/)
-Lost (I got a bad grade once or something, and was banned from watching the show. :|)
-Two Stupid Dogs (After watching it for years, in front of my parents, my mom one day decided I couldn't watch it anymore. I was not having that, I watched it anyway.)
-Futurama (We watched the premiere as a family. I was banned from it, my brother was allowed to watch. :/)

I'm sure there are a ton more, but the one thing I love to tell people I wasn't allowed to watch was:
Nightmare Before Christmas. I know it's not a show but still. My mom thought Jack would be too scary for me. That cute...clay figure. Was apparently scarier to her than Beetlejuice and The Mask. :/
