What is involved in museum work?

This is a field I am interested in going into after finishing my second degree.
I'm wondering what kinds of jobs are involved and what qualifications are necessary.
Also if anybody has first hand experience or advice? Thanks in advance

I have a friend who is looking at going into this field, he wants to work at an art museum.... he got his Bachelor's in art history, is doing an internship at the Smithsonian in Washington DC right now, and is going to Graduate school in the spring. So yeah, probably at least a Master's, I don't think he'd go back to school if he didn't have to. I don't know if he wants to get a doctorate.
I don't actually know what position he's going for, either. He'd probably take what he could get.
You'd think I'd talk to this guy more about his future plans, but he's always just going on about something that happened in the 1800's
