I am trying to find more scary movies instead of my average Freddy and Micheal Myers routine, anything from the 1950's-2004ish? I have been also searching for some amazing alien flicks but haven't found any that have caught my eye.
Blair Witch Project -> very scary Nightmare on Elm Street -> very scary Friday 13th -> classical The Ring -> classical Shawn of the dead -> funny Shining -> very scary It -> very scary Final Destination -> funny the Excorcist -> ...
I'd clarify one entry from above: Carnival of Souls the original version, not the recent remake. You probably already saw The Sixth Sense, yes? If not, catch it! The Others with Nicole Kidman, which you can watch at least twice and see a totally different movie each time. Take Shelter is a very recent and very intense psychological horror film, headed by a top-notch cast. Cronos is the most original vampire film I ever saw, but find Vampyr if you can! It's an amazing vampire movie from the end of the silent era. When you remember when it was made, some of the effects are astonishing (like a ballroom full of dancing shadows...). Les Revenants (aka They Came Back) is a French film about zombies, but it's very original and somber, with zombies who can walk and talk, and don't seem interested in eating anyone....as far as anyone can tell. But why do they wander off when you aren't looking? Where do they go?
Thank you for clarifying the Carnival of Souls suggestion. I should have done that, but didn't think of it. I always forget there is a remake of that movie.
No biggie. You have excellent taste in movies, and I didn't want you saddled with blame for the remake. The original is a remarkable movie, made for only a few grand, and by a guy who only made industrial training films before that. His story is almost as cool as the movie, heh!

I'll stop there. Hopefully, there are some here you haven't seen and will like.
