I just recently finished Battlestar Galactica and LOST for the 2nd time each. Are there any other good fantasy/sci-fi shows that I can waste hundreds of hours on?
Please consider that since I have watched these shows twice that I have already probably seen everything you suggest, but I'm hoping for something that I haven't seen.
Again, Sci-fi and fantasy. Hundreds of hours. THANKS!
PS, yes, I've seen Caprica, and Firefly, Enterprise, LEXX, ST:TNG etc. but please do suggest something similar to these that you think I haven't seen. Please nothing before 1990
Some people like SGU, it just doesn't sit well with most fans of the previous two series. Someone who watches that first might like it, or who doesn't compare it to the others.
I will admit it had some interesting characters, but it was trying too hard to be the new Battlestar Galactica. And when the characters were using the Ancient stones to possess peoples' bodies back home, and then have sex - how is that NOT rape? If I had someone use my body to have sex, I would feel incredibly violated.
That's crazy, there should be limits. I never watched it, I was content to watch the highlight clips on YouTube and Daniel Jackson's intro thingies but that's it. It's one of those things that doesn't appeal to fans of the franchise but might appeal to other people if they can get past the Stargate sticker slapped on the label. That's the main reason I can't watch Atlantis, because it's nothing like SG-1, doesn't have any of the same characters, is in a different galaxy, and the Wraith I can't take seriously.
I thought the Wraith were a little too cornball myself, but Rodney McCay pretty much singlehandedly makes the show. He's a fun character. Oh, and Jewel State joined the cast in later seasons, and they made Woolsey into an actual likeable character and a decent leader. So it's got some good.
I've heard the basic character role of the show. They seem to have a thing for actors from Firefly on there. Jayne in the episode Heroes, Inara as the half-Ori, and Kaylee as whoever she is there. Actually I like to think of it more as a hub of actors who have been in other sci-fi. McKay was funny in SG-1 and I was surprised when I saw him on Atlantis. I only watched the pilot and the episode with the flooding and Bill Nye. The latter was the first episode of Stargate I'd ever seen and that's all I remember from it, besides Jewel Staite was in it and Picardo was there in credit only.
Well, all of the actors from Firefly are this generation's Star Trek cast - they have a cult following of science fiction fans so other shows know that casting them = instant bump in the ratings.
Funny thing about McCay. He was originally just a one-off character for SG-1 and when they were creating Atlantis, his character was going to be someone else, just a lot like him. But when the actor who played McCay auditioned for the role and got it, they decided to make him the same guy who showed up in SG-1. I loved that episode where Bill Nye showed up. Ah, the childhood memories it stirred.
Bill Nye is awesome. But when I saw it I was thinking, wow so it's like a public thing that everyone knows about that's cool. I had only seen the movie. But then I thought it looked like everyone but the public knew. I was confused. And I guess you're right about the Firefly cast. But my dad found Firefly boring and he's a big trekkie, so I guess that's the only difference. On and that it didn't even last a season.
"Once Upon a Time," if you're into fantasy of the fairy-tales sort. It presents interesting twists on the stories. "Star Trek: Voyager" or "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" if you want to see more character-driven aspects to "Star Trek." "Dr. Who" is awesome. I know it *started* before 1990, but it's still running now. I only know the David Tennant Dr. Who, but I highly recommend it. "The Tenth Kingdom," a miniseries from the turn of the century. It has, I think, 10 parts, so it shouldn't take as long as your other shows to finish. Similar to "Once Upon a Time," but spends most of the story in the fairy-tale world.
