SO I SURE ALOT OF PEOPLE SAW THE NEW BEOWULF MOVIE DIRECTED BY ROBERT ZEMECKIS...MY QUESTION IS HOW DID HE AND NEIL GIAMAN RUIN THIS AWESOME STORY...FIRST OF ALL IN THE ORIGINAL BEOWULF WAS NEVER A LYING CHEATING DOUCHEBAG...SECONDLY HE SLEEPS WITH GRENDELS MOM!?! WTF!!! DONT GET ME WRONG I LIKE NEIL GIAMAN BUT AM I GOING CRAZY OR DID THIS MOVIE JUST RUIN THE OLDEST STORY IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE...

The whole "I AM BEOWULF!" in the tv ads for it put me off it for some reason. :|

I thought the movie was interesting on it's own terms, but I agree, the changes that were made were unnecessary. The story itself is much more pessimistic, and this version makes it a heroic triumph over Beowulf's character flaws. What bothered me most about the movie was that Beowulf's struggle was internal, whereas the his struggle in the story is almost entirely external. He wasn't worried about his feelings, he just killed monsters to protect his people. Plus, he is supposed to get help in the battle against the dragon.
