This generation had a lot of great games, don't get me wrong, but as most of the others in this topic have already stated, a lot of 360 and PS3 players would just have pissing contests to see who had the better console.
The Wii was mostly just shovelware, so yeah.
That said, it was an amazing generation for PC gaming.
PC is flying with games like Hawken f2p. Next gen will be the make or break for consoles with such new tech coming and phones and tablets changing how we play now. Can next gen get it right, time will tell.
The crash was in 80 something i read, but anyway i think things will still be about the big 3 we have now. Also the nes came out of the crash just a couple of years later and was a smash hit so any downward dip would be small. The industry is just more dynamic.
People like to cry how bad this gen was because all they do is bitch about Call of Duty when we actually got some incredible games in this LONG generation. Even the Wii. Well, if you weren't blind and actually LOOKED you'd find them. This coming from a guy who plays arcade shooters. If I found tons of those kind of games especially for the most part on a console that everyone would love to kid themselves only has Halo, there was no excuse for anyone else. It wasn't the BEST gen. Certainly not in my opinion what with Nintendo dying in my eyes, but even they had stuff I highly enjoyed, still do, and most others do as well.
It could have been far better, but I don't see myself giving up my consoles. All three had some must haves for me.
I can't really afford any of the new consoles so I can't keep up anymore. I just recently got a 3Ds if that counts. Personally most games are either zombie fied or shooters now. I personally would love to see a nice NON-M RATED, turned based RPG again.
I remember how much creativity people had during the playstation era. It weren't a bunch of games where you just kill people. Sorry I don't hate shooters or anything, or M-rated game, I mean heck I'm 28. Yet I'm just not really into gore, I can't stomach it actually.
I think I miss those games where creators thought outside of the box. Most of today's stuff is the cliche cookie cutter, let's make money, stuff.
If there is anything this generation taught me is that gamers just showed their true colors as being some of the most whiniest and most pretentious people I've ever seen.
I remember when I just had fun with my games and liked what I liked without anyone judging me for what I played. Now it's all about, which one is the "better" console, which game is "cheating" on you, which companies are "evil," which games are "bad" games. Not saying all of them are like that, but so much negativity these days.
They dumbed down games a lot and priced up games a lot, the population of 10 year olds has also skyrocketed so you get matched with idiot little kids a lot in MP games. A couple of game series are still excellent, but my comments sum up most of the newer releases around.
'Call of Duty' >.< I hate saying that, but this generation of consoles was dominated by this dying series. Thankfully, Mass Effect, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Fallout 3, Dragon Age, Halo 4, Assassins Creed 1 & 2 (not 3), The Witcher and many others (oooh, Limbo and Slenderman too!) made valiant strides for this era of gaming.
