Black Ops II

Well Black Ops II came out today, how is everyone liking it so far? Anything need a good dev nerf in your opinion?

I for one am enjoying it and having a blast, unlike that abortion called MW3 and probably 45% of Black Ops matches.

Boycott Activision, they suck dicks and they're raping the fuck out of Bungie.

Did any of you received a miss-placed Black-Ops II CD2 which contains Mass Effects 2?

I like the newer weapons, they're pretty cool. Have yet to try campaign or zombies yet, just played some MP and currently playing with the emblem editor.

I'll probably get it eventually when it drops to like 15 to 10 dollars. Just because of zombies.

Is the game truly more different then the other entries? Not trying to be funny. I'm curious if they changed the graphics, engine, better single player?

The engine is tweaked for each iteration (Fun fact: Engines are commonly reused, as its more practical to just make revisions than design a new engine entirely from the ground up. See: Source Frostbite, etc.)

There have been small graphical improvements, however, keep in mind that their dedication to having the game operating at 60 fps severely limits what can be done in that department.

Better single player? You will have to be the judge of that. Find a friend that has it and borrow it, or rent it from a service like Redbox.

Companies that release AAA games that sell millions of copies generally update their engine to keep up with the times. But the IW engine is almost exactly like it was in 2007, with minor updates like improved lighting, and it shows; Capcom, Epic, Crytek, and Nintendo all have engines that make CoD look like crap.

In regards to the AI, it's entirely possible to have intelligent AI. F3AR had great AI, but the makers of CoD won't improve their own.

It depends on which title you're talking about. Some of their games are built around engines that receive more treatment than others.

"Capcom, Epic, Crytek, and Nintendo all have engines that make CoD look like crap."

If you'll review my first post, you'll see this:

"There have been small graphical improvements, however, keep in mind that their dedication to having the game operating at 60 fps severely limits what can be done in that department."

"In regards to the AI, it's entirely possible to have intelligent AI. F3AR had great AI, but the makers of CoD won't improve their own."

Perhaps there were tricks used to give the impression of better AI. Case in point:

But yes, it certainly is possible to have intelligent AI. However, the better it is, the more it will demand, and unfortunately that's a demand seventh gen consoles are struggling to meet.

When I say engine, I meant if they fixed any of the broken perks or the A.I. and by single-player I mean if I can complete this in at least more than 5 hours.
MarvelousChester's avatar
Perks are balanced though I think tac mask dominates the 3rd perk tier BUT not nearly as bad as say Assassin or Ghost did back in MW3 and Blops.

As for AI and a story longer than 5 hours, you are asking for a miracle when it comes to an mp based FPS, a good story at that.

Thanks for the info.

I didn't really expect much from COD. It's just that there was talk around CoD changing it up. I wiki'd the single player and I assumed that might be true.

I've yet to play single player, but, as I've heard, A.I. most likely won't improve in general until we move into the next cycle of better-equipped consoles. There's only so much you can do with those 7 year old clunkers.

Want a more in depth perspective?

In terms of multiplayer, I've heard some noise being made about Ghost:

Apparently, you will show on the radar if you aren't moving over a certain speed, effectively nerfing Ghost, and forcing you to use a run & gun play style. Aside from that, I think the most significant change to the class system is the addition of Wildcards.

Ah, ok. Thanks for the info.

It's the same engine from 2007, the graphics are tweaked a tiny bit, and you can still beat the single player in five hours.
TeXD's avatar
It's actually the same engine from what, 2001? I think it still uses a heavily modified Quake 3 engine.
TheRedSnifit's avatar
It's based on Quake 3's id Tech 3, but it's distinct enough that it's generally considered its own engine.

Not surprised. Tsk.

I'll get it after the price drops in about five years
