Okay, let's admit it... Their character design sucks!

Do you think it's something we should blame for the lack of fan art here on dA?

Is it the game that just sucks? I personally played it on ps2 and altho I was very technical, I ended up enjoying my experience... What do you think about the game!?

I enjoyed the gameplay mechanics when I first played VF back in 1996. I don't mind them now either, but games like VF, Soul Calibur and Tekken are a little too complex for my liking.

Admittedly, their character designs are some of the worst I've seen. There's Lion's weird life jacket, Wolf and Jeffry resembling each other too much in the shirtless muscular males department, Akira's cliche appearance, Sarah resembling Sofia from Toshinden WAAAAAYYY too much (I'm not kidding here), and so on. The only memorable design I like is Pai's pink outfit from VF2.

Hum... I don't know why they don't get great designers, it could really save the whole title... They almost didn't change any design for the ps3 release... Sarah Bryant looks like a typical cheap whore... I mean, blue bodysuit with leather boots and a belt!? Non-matching, non-creative?! There's this stereotype that each fightning game should have a blonde chick in it... Some of them really made them unique but some others... I did have a look at Sofia and yeah, the blatantly look similar! Pai's outfits were cute but yeah, they all lack something that would make their own identity.... Someone, rescue them :P

The game is great, no doubt. The problem is that outside a few exceptions, the characters look too similar to other fighting game. Think bout it...

Jacky: Johnny Cage
Sarah: Sonya Blade
Pai: Chun Li
Kage-Maru: Original Scorpion/SubZero
Akira: Ryu
Shun Li: Gen
Jeffry: Dee Jay

As broken as their gameplay is Mortal Kombat has the best character design around. Even the ninjas, whom were originally pallete swaps, look totally different. VF could learn a thing of two from them.

I wish that I drinked. I know it won't solve my problems, but at least I'll have something to blame my problems on.

Let me add that Sofia and Sarah both had their memories tampered with by the big bad evil organization of their series. Coincidence, or long lost twin sisters? :/

I just remembered Dural, and while the robot-with-everyone's-skills-inputted-into-it deal has been done to death in fighting game anime, I don't actually see it a lot in games themselves. Furthermore, Dural's a female robot that's possibly modeled after Kage's mother. I don't remember the exact storyline, but VF was not known for a real innovative story. Anyway, I found Dural's design to be somewhat original, but nothing groundbreaking.

omg, really, Sofia and Sarah? What about the very blonde Nina Williams from Tekken (in my opinion, she's hot and has great designs, sometimes tacky but oh well, she's different) who lost her memory during cryo-sleep?! I'll look into guilty gear and street fighter for amnesiac blondes as well hahah!

Sofia enters the Toshinden tournament to regain her lost memories. Dude, you serious about Nina? I barely know the Tekken series, so I'm surprised.

Street Fighter and Guilty Gear seem to be free of amnesiac blondes, so no worries.

Jeffry looks nothing like DJ. He's not even black. But yeah, you're right about how the characters are generic and ugly.

Also, I'm not much of a Virtua Fighter player so my opinion isn't very valid, but I think that the control scheme is completely archaic. The movelists are so long that they started using K+G as an input for an attack. How does that even make sense? Kick plus block equals really slow kick? Get real.

Then there's the fact that you have to use 3 buttons to tech roll. In most games, you don't push any buttons to tech.

Anyway, I shouldn't hate. Virtua Fighter is a great game. I just can't stand the controls.

Ya, Nina enters the tournament in hopes of regaining her lost memories... she also meet up with her sister and as soon as she see hers, they begin to fight and it lasts for days :P

How about dead or alive? Isn't the chick who got duplicated amnesiac too?!And why does everyone thinks fightning will make you remember stuff!?

Uhm well... they had.. great stages..!? At least! :P
