Looking for a Childhood Book-creatures wearing mushroom skin were involved..help!

All I recall is creatures (possibly aliens) who wore mushroom skins as clothing, and a couple of children meeting one of them...argh please help :)

After extensive googling, I do believe it might be! However, no one mentions the alien's clothing. I've added it to my bookdepository wishlist and will order it someday to make sure :D Thanks for your trouble!
