Pulitzer Novels recommendations?

We are doing an independent reading project in school about any Pulitzer novel, and I'm wondering what one I should pick.
I know you can't really go wrong with any Pulitzer novel, but I want something I can really get into.
I like basically anything sad or morbid, and I love a good mindf***.

Any recommendations? I'm pretty open.

I agree with the recommendation for the The Road, it is pretty morbid.

McCarthy's writing manages to add a sense of beauty, but the story is very easy to dislike and I believe that it's hugely overrated.

Doesn't get much sadder/morbid than Cormac McCarthy's The Road. His style is very polarizing, but if you find you can deal with it, you'll love it.

I liked the Shipping News but Anne Proulx a lot. I'd recommend it.
